NAME Lota/Dunamase
AREA LOCATION Cross Avenue
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1837-1842 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of Williamstown
and it is annotated as Lota on both.
GENERAL Cross Avenue laid out in the 1750's. Trapezoid site, the acreage varies on to let
advertisements. Noted as having a coachhouse in 1832 and a gatelodge in 1885.
Started as a 3 bed house, lots of alterations and extensions, now a series of
interconnecting buildings. Seven bay two storey over basement. Off centre door
flanked by a 2 bay wing to one side and flanked by a bowed extension and a two
bay wing to the other. To the rear it appears to be three storey over basement.
Various window types, one wing has typical 6 over 6 Victorian, an older section of
the house has a lovely tripartite window. Name changed to Dunamase circa 1925.
Its still extant gatelodge is no longer part of the site and part of the site was used
to provide access to St Margaret's housing estate.
YEAR BUILT circa 1830
VALUATION In 1869 the valuation was 79 pounds and on the 1901 census it is
noted as having 13 rooms occupied by family and 16 rooms in 1911.
