Newtown Park/Newtownpark House
NAME Newtown Park House
AREA LOCATION Entrance from Mount Albany off Newtownpark Avenue.
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1838-1845 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of Newtownpark
and it is annotated as Newtown Park and Newtownpark House respectively.
GENERAL Originally a bow ended 3 bay house, 2 storey over basement with a circular
entrance hall. The single story portico with four Corinthian columns survives but
the original Wyatt windows have been replaced with sash windows. In Gandon
style c1770. Gatelodge survives (though possibly re-erected) on Newtownpark
Avenue in the style of Thomas Cooley. To let on 7 acres in 1783.
YEAR BUILT circa 1770
VALUATION In 1899 the valuation was 149 pounds and in the 1901 census it is noted as having
27 rooms occupied by family.
