Clonard
NAME Moreen Lodge/Clonard/Irish Management Institute
AREA LOCATION Sandyford Road
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1838-1845 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of Ballalley
and it is annotated as Moreen Lodge and Clonard respectively.
GENERAL The original house was altered and the name changed to Clonard circa
1853. In 1878 and house, and furniture less than two years old and made by William Fry of
Dublin). A fire in a hayshed threatened the house and stables in 1936 but it was brought under
control by local fire fighters. It was on 70 acres in 1953. It is now a two story over basement
three bay house with a full height central breakfront with gable.
YEAR BUILT circa 1830
VALUATION In the 1911 census it is noted as having 18 rooms occupied by family. No
valuation found.
ARCHITECT Unknown but alterations by John Skipton Mulvany in 1853 for Henry
Thompson. In 1911 alterations to the gatelodge were made by Rudolf
Maximilian Butler for M B Jellett.
