Ashe family
William Sandes Ashe born circa 1793 at Co Limerick son of Rev William Ashe, rector of Croagh,
Limerick and Elizabeth Jeffries. He was the grandson of Nicholas Ashe and Mary Smith. He
graduated Trinity College Dublin and took holy orders. He married circa 1835. He was curate
of Rathronan, Limerick for over 20 years and they had a least five children. He was appointed
rector of Killenvoy, Co Roscommon. He was bankrupt in 1853 noted as being previously of
Glenbeg, County Kerry and formerly of Rathronan, County Limerick. He died before 1856.
2 Elizabeth Bushe Ashe born circa 1838 in Limerick married Christmas Thomas Cregan
on 5 Jul 1856 at Dublin Registrar’s Office. Christmas was the son of Martin Cregan, a
portrait painter, and president of the Royal Hibernian Academy.
1 Thomas Ashe Cregan born circa 1857 was a master marinar. He died 1 Jan 1925
at Royal Hospital, Donnybrook.
1 Henry Ashe born circa 1839 took holy orders. He married Nannie Louisa Ashe at
Booterstown Parish Church on 10 Jul 1878. Nannie was the eldest daughter of the late
Rev Richard Legge Tyner, rector of Annadown, Co Galway. Nannie moved to Villa Nova
in Bundoran, Donegal by 1901 for health reasons and Henry stayed mainly at Duleek
rectory and retired to Johnstown House, Duleek. They had three children of whom two
survived in 1911. Henry died circa 1917.
1 Norman D’Acort Ashe born 9 Jul 1879 at 48 Bushfield Avenue, Dublin died
17 Aug 1886 at Bellewstown House, Duleek and was buried at Duleek
Churchyard.
2 Wellesley St George Ashe born 24 Feb 1881 at Bellewstown House, Duleek, Co
Meath. He joined the 7th Indian Cavalry and was attached to the 38th Central
India Horse. He married Estelle Emily Spencer de Courcy on 9 Dec 1916 at
Crowborough Parish Church, Sussex. The Hon Estelle was the youngest of the
three daughters of Lord Kingsale (33rd Baron Kingsale Michael Considine de
Courcy, premier Baron of Ireland) and Emily Frances Anne de Courcy, Lady
Kinsale of The Meads, Crowborough. They returned from India in June 1919.
They moved around the country and had a house in Enochdhu, Scotland by 1941.
Wellesley died 21 Jun 1958 at Horsham, Sussex and was buried at Duleek
Churchyard. Emily died 12 Dec 1984 at Chaulbury and was buried with her
parents.

2 Elizabeth Sheila Lilith (Sheila) Ashe born 9 Feb 1920 in Cheltenham married
Surgeon-Lieutenant Humphrey Desmond Juler in London in 1946.
3 Norman Constantine de Courcy Ashe born 5 Sep 1922 at Alstone Lodge,
Cheltenham. He enlisted in 1941 and served with the Royal Inniskilling
Engineers and transferred to the Air Corps in 1943. He served during WW2
with the Glider Pilot Regiment. He married Bertha Frances Deirdre (Deirdre)
McCormick on 15 Jul 1944 at Enochdhu Parish Church, Perthshire, Scotland.
Deirdre was the daughter of Canon McCormick of Ardcarne Rectory Boyle.
In 1948 he traded as The Mayne Studio with Betty Whelan at 133 Lower
Baggot Street and took photos of models, later he would offer all types of
photography from this address. Betty would go on to marry Edward Ashe-
Browne and work with Iris Ashe, fashion writer. In 1949 the studio was
commissioned by CIE to take a series of colour photographs to promote CIE
tours of Ireland for the European and American markets. In 1950 he was
commissioned as Aerial Photographer to the Irish Times for a series called
‘Europe as the Crow flies’. With special correspondent Tony grey, he
photographed 8 countries in 14 days travelling nearly 4000 miles. In 1951
the studio took a stand at the spring show and put on a display of mainly
aerial survey photographs commissioned by Roe’s Quarry, the Department of
Agriculture and Mount Street Club Farm. They also sold some photographs as
postcards but outsourced most of the printing. Between 1952 and 1954
Norman continued to work as an aerial photographer and was commissioned
by CIE the Irish Times and the health Boards. By 1954 the studio was run by
Walter Guiver who continued to trade as Ashe Studios. Norman emigrated
from England to America in 1956. Norman and Deirdre divorced in 1965.
Norman worked as a crop duster. He was killed on 3 Jun 1967 when his plane
crashed in a field 16 miles from Atlantic City Airport, New Jersey his address was
given as Cherry Lane, Boise, Idaho.

Church, Ballyshannon, Co Donegal. Charles was the third son of John Richards
Orpen of St Leonards, Killiney and was living at Long Soal, Dibrugash, Upper Assam,
India.
3 Isaac Ashe born circa 1840 married Mary Rogers, on 26 May 1863 at St James', Dublin.
They had at least 13 children and emigrated to Ashton Birtle, Manitoba circa 1880.
Isaac died 11 February 1923 at Ochre River, Manitoba.

on 10 Mar 1891 at Dalkey Church. George was the eldest son of F W Rogers of
Cambridge House, Sandycove.
