Carysfort Lodge
NAME Carysfort Lodge
AREA LOCATION Grove Avenue, Stillorgan opposite Linden and adjacent to Glensavage.
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1838-1845 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of Stillorgan
Grove and it is annotated as Carysfort Lodge on both maps.
GENERAL Grove Avenue was once a long straight formal avenue attached to Stillorgan Park
with rows of trees either side. At least six villas were built backing on to this avenue by the 1830s
including Talbot Lodge which was of a similar style. Carysfort Lodge was a Georgian single storey to
front and two storey to rear with a half octagonal bow. It was advertised as being suitable as a bathing
lodge in1836 and by 1843 it was described as being a residence on 8-9 acres with four reception rooms
and six bedroom. It had servants apartments, house keepers room. There was stabling for eight
horses and a coach house for four carriages. It had a large and productive garden with graperies and
a green house.
YEAR BUILT circa 1810
VALUATION In 1912 the valuation was 76 pounds and in the 1901 census it is noted as having
20 rooms occupied by family.
