NAME Belmont House/Belmont School/Belmont Nursing Home
AREA LOCATION Stillorgan N11 at Galloping Green
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1838-1845 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of
Galloping Green North and it is annotated as Belmont House and
Belmont School respectively.
GENERAL Three storey five bay over basement Georgian villa with a breakfront on
18 acres with gate lodge. It was integrated into a modern nursing home and some of its
Georgian core is still intact. A separate building on the grounds contained the school rooms
in 1857. On 20 Dec 1887 a neo-gothic style stone built chapel with stained glass windows
was consecrated by the Right Rev Bishop Nicholas Donnelly of Canea. The chapel is still
extant but no longer in use as a place of worship.
YEAR BUILT circa 1790
VALUATION In 1900 it had a valuation of 120 pounds and 10 shillings and in 1911
is noted as having 12 rooms occupied.
