Thomas Dixon of Castle Court, Shrewsbury in England married Jane Guinness on
21 Nov 1820 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin. She was the daughter of Richard
Guinness and Mary Catherine Darley. She died at Leamington, Warwickshire on
3 Sep 1827. In 1840, the family were living at Abilene but in 1842 they had moved
to Ardlui and had their city residence at 2 Kildare Street.
1 Richard Dixon born circa 1821 (Baptised St Mary's Shrewsbury 3 Oct 1821. He
attended Belmont school and died a bachelor on 10 Mar 1899 at 81 South
Circular Road, formerly of The Grange, Stillorgan. He left 22K in personal estate,
his step-brother Wakefield was an executor of his Will.
2 Cecilia Dixon born 13 Jul 1825 in Shrewsbury was baptised in St Brigid's in
June 1826. She died aged 24 on 30 Jul 1849 was buried with her grandfather
Richard Guinness at Stillorgan Graveyard.
3 Jane Dixon born c1827 died 13 August 1927 at South Hill Cottage, Mount Merrion
Avenue where she had lived with her cousin Richard Lyons Darley and was buried
with her cousin at Deansgrange cemetery.
Thomas of Mecklenburg-square, London, secondly married Elizabeth Dorothea Ball
daughter of Benjamin Ball and Deborah Haughton of Riversdale Stillorgan at Stillorgan
Church on 6 Apr 1830. Thomas was a JP, a guardian of the North Dublin Union, a member of
Dublin Corporation water works committee and chair of the Blackrock Township improvement
commissioners. Elizabeth born circa 1815 died at Calpe, Blackrock on 19 Feb 1853. Thomas
died at Calpe on 6 Aug 1863 and was buried at Stillorgan.
4 Wakefield Haughton Dixon born circa 1834 attended Belmont School. He married
Catherine Jessie Craig daughter of the late Rev James Craig of Severn Hill House,
Shrewsbury on 16 Sep 1859 at Shrewsbury. He was a Belfast merchant and in
September 1869, Wakefield was appointed lay delegate of the Parish Church of Belfast
and in 1879, he was commissioner of Belfast Harbour Board. Wakefield was
church warden of St James’s and Catherine was a founding member of the NSPCC in
Belfast. Wakefield died on 18 Dec 1900 and was buried at Carnmoney cemetery
Newtownabbey. Catherine died 13 Feb 1909.
1 Augustus Edward Dixon born 2 Jun 1860 at Parkville, Antrim Road, Belfast was a
professor at Galway University and married Nina Haughton 2 Apr 1890, she was
the daughter of Wilfred Haughton of Howth. He joined the faculty of University
College Cork as Professor of Chemistry and died at Sidcup, Kent in March 1946,
and left nearly 19K in personal estate.

Marie Gaye daughter of Connoly M Gaye at Limavady on 2 Nov 1911.
11 Mabel Florence Dixon born 12 May 1875 at Dunowen, Belfast married Arthur
Henry Lawder son of Capt. Edward J Lawder, Madras Staff at St Mary’s, Shrewsbury.
12 Ida Kathleen Dixon born 19 Feb 1881 at Dunowen, Belfast married Rev Maurice
Henry Fitzgerald Collis, widower and son of Maurice Henry Collis, MD of Dublin.
5 Frederick Ball Dixon second son born circa 1831 attended Belmont School and entered
Trinity in 1850. He was living at Maesqwylldd (Ardlui) in 1848 and joined the 41st regiment.
He was one of the first batch of officers sent to the Crimea. He attained the rank of captain
and died at Trinidad on 14 Feb 1859 from yellow fever.
6 Augustus De Butts Dixon youngest son born 1 Jun 1837 attended Belmont School whilst
living at Calpe House, Blackrock. He passed the Army exams at Sandhurst in 1855 and was
attached to 41st Regiment. He attained the rank of captain in 1865 with the 14th regiment
and married Eliza Laura Bella the same year at Belfast on 21 Jun 1865. Elizabeth was the
widow of the late William Melrose and died in India in 1869. Augustus attained the rank of
Major General and died at Spring Grove House, Church Road, Norwood the home of his
sister Frederica and her husband Edward on 6 Oct 1890 after suffering burns in an accident
at a Turkish Baths.
7 Frederica Louisa Elizabeth Dixon youngest daughter born 14 Oct 1840 at Abilene married
Edward Haughton, MD of Glenbrook, Enniskerry on 30 Dec 1863 at the Registrar's Office, Dublin.
Edward was the third son of William Haughton, merchant of Moorefield, Roebuck. The couple
moved to London and were living at Springrove House from 1878.
