NAME Brooklawn/Brooklawn House

MAP LOCATION OSI map of 1898-1913 place it in the townland of Stradbrook and it is
annotated as Brooklawn House.
GENERAL Detached five-bay deep single-storey over basement villa with a
gatelodge at both Newtownpark Avenue and Stradbrook Road. A stewards house was built
on the grounds in 1935. Hood mouldings over timber sash windows. Square-headed
windows to side elevations with cut-granite sills. Ionic porch with an inset front door and
an Oriel window. The house was built in the grounds of Stradbrook Hall. During the Allen's
occupation, It was described as a cottage like house surrounded by greenhouses, gardens and
field with a brook running through it. A billiards room/ballroom 48' x 18' at a slightly higher
elevation was added circa 1900. The house retains many of the original fine period features
such as - ceiling roses, freezes picture rail and cornicing and marble fireplaces.
