NAME Seafort Lodge
AREA LOCATION Castle Dawson Avenue, Williamstown
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1838-1845 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of
Williamstown and it is annotated as Seafort Lodge on both. It also
appears on John Rocques map of 1757.
GENERAL Detached non basement eighteenth century villa at 20 Rock Road. In 1807
it was for rent or the lease to be sold and was described as a beautiful house with a coach house,
stable, garden, garden house and offices in complete repair. In 1854 it was For Sale on 1 acre
with frontage to main road having 2 parlours, 1 drawing room, 5 bedrooms, coach house and
stabling for 4 horses. The gatelodge was at Seafort Parade. Glenalla was built on the site and in
1996 permission was applied for and refused to demolish and rebuild. It was purchased by
Blackrock Hospital Ltd before 1999.
YEAR BUILT circa 1750
VALUATION In 1940 the Valuation was 56 Pounds and in the 1901 census it is noted as
having 12 rooms occupied by family.
