NAME MOOREFIELD/MOORFIELD, ROEBUCK
AREA LOCATION ROEBUCK, Princeton, Goatstown.
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1838-1845 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of Roebuck and
it is annotated as Moorfield on both. It also appears on Taylor's 1816 map.
GENERAL 'There was a ‘dwelling house two stories high consisting of a parlour, drawing room.
Breakfast room, four bed chambers with dressing closets, yards stabling for five horses, coach house, a
walled garden and ornamental plantations.’ (Brassington 1832). In 1836 it was for sale on 13 acres.
A basement residence, it had a drawing room with a circular window and a morning room that
opened into a conservatory. There were seven bedrooms and ample servant accommodation. The
out offices were all lofted and situated within an enclosed yard and it had two gatelodges. In 1925
the lease was for sale (originating in 1825 for a period of 250 years) and included the house, 23
acres and 1 & 2 Moorfield Cottages.

VALUATION In 1847 the valuation was 187 pounds and in the 1911 census it is noted as
having 25 rooms occupied by family.
