Enderly
NAME Enderly/Enderly House/Enderly
AREA LOCATION Sweetmount Avenue, Dundrum
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1838-1845 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of Churchtown
and it is annotated as Enderly on the 1898 map but un-named in 1838 and
earlier maps.
GENERAL Double-fronted, eight roomed non basement residence. In 1869 it was owned by Charles
Going Malone. In 1888 Enderly was advertised as a boarding school for boys under 15 preparing them for the
Navy, Universities and English grammar schools. Its focus was on delicate or backward boys from the age of 6,
and the grounds contained tennis courts and playgrounds. Given that the house was vacant, it is unlike that
this school ever opened. By 1911 he was owned by Daniel Byrne who was leasing to Thomas Figgis. It had a
coach house and stables. Enderly is a protected structure, as is the 2.8 meter high granite rubble stone wall
which extends along the Laurel Road boundary.
YEAR BUILT circa 1760
VALUATION In 1869 the valuation was 28 pounds and in the 1911 census it is noted as
having 14 rooms occupied by family.
