GENERAL Handsome two storey, three bay non basement villa built in the Italianate Classical
'Prince Albert' style. It was on 5 acres with a walled garden and 800 feet frontage to Avoca Avenue with
stabling and a coach house in 1881. It also had outbuildings which included a cowhouse and fowlhouse.
On the grounds was a Russia summerhouse (Dacha) which was sold in 1920. In 1922 it was for sale on 5
acres and by 1988 is was on 1 acre. The name was changed to Redwood in 1989.
YEAR BUILT circa 1857 - Lease for 100 years from 1857.
VALUATION In 1876 the valuation was 72 pounds and by 1912 the valuation was 90 pounds and
in the 1901 census it is noted as having 17 rooms occupied by family.
ARCHITECT Possible John Howard Louch or Edward Henry Carson. Alterations and additions by
William Mansfield Mitchell in 1905 by James Allen, builder.
