NAME Rock Mount/Rockmount
AREA LOCATION Dundrum
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1838-1845 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of Dundrum
and it is annotated as Rock Mount and Rockmount respectively. Rockmount
also refers to an area that covers Rockville and Herbert Hill on what was
called the Dundrum Road.
GENERAL The house and 10 acres of meadow were put up for sale in 1793 as the owner
was departing for England. In 1844 it was being let on 4.5 acres.
YEAR BUILT c1793 for Rockmount Cottage c1835 for Rockmount House built on the land.
VALUATION In 1863 the valuation was 60 pounds and in the 1911 census it is noted as having
17 rooms occupied by family.
