NAME Summerville
AREA LOCATION Cross Avenue, Booterstown
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1838-1845 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of
Williamstown and it is annotated as Summerville on both.
GENERAL Summerville a protected structure is a two storey over basement level
(two storey over semi basement to the south and three storeys to the north) detached house on the
north side of Cross Avenue on ¾ acre approx. Built circa 1807, it has an iron wind vane on its pitched
roof. The ground floor windows and porch have elaborate ironwork canopies and it has a cast iron
balcony at first floor level. From 1807 to 1826 is was leased by John Gillman (the owner) to various
tenants for the season or for short periods. It had a grapery, coach house, greenhouse
and servant's apartments.

VALUATION In 1862 and 1925 the valuation was 45 and 90 pounds respectively and in the
1901 census it is noted as having 15 rooms occupied by family.
