NAME The Dove House/Dove House/Ardmore/Tram Yard/Europa Cars

MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1837- 1842 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of Blackrock
and it is annotated as Dove House and Ardmore respectively. It appears on
Rocques (1760) and Taylors map (1816) but is not named.
GENERAL A Georgian eight roomed non-basement residence. The house was to let
in 1829 and was described as 'built in the best manner with coach house, stable and neat
garden'. By 1889 the house was called Ardmore. In 1912 part of the grounds were acquired by
the Blackrock Township for social housing and road widening. In 1919 it was for sale with 4
reception rooms, 7 bedrooms and a motor house, tennis court and pleasure gardens. In 1947
Dun Laoghaire fire brigade were called to the premises to extinguish the roof which had caught
fire.
