AREA LOCATION Trimleston Avenue site of the German Embassy
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1838-1845 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of Trimleston/
Owenstown and it is annotated as Trimleston on both maps. It is also noted
on Taylor's map of 1816.
GENERAL Villa in Old Merrion with two gate lodges and an artificial lake. In 1803 one of
its selling points was water supply was piped into kitchen. The lands were known as Farrell's farm with
both Trimleston House and Trimleston Cottage on site and both were still extant in 1867.
It appears that Trimleston Cottage was subsumed into Trimleston in the 1870's when the house was
remodeled.

reception rooms, servants quarters and a good kitchen. It had a stable and coach house,a garden and
pleasure ground and was within 7 minutes walk of Booterstown station. It was let by Mrs Hayes of
61 Dawson street and continued to be let by Mrs Packenham of the same address in 1874. It was
renamed Dornden circa 1876.
Trimleston was a two storey over basement, five bay Regency style house with a projecting porch
and conservatory to the side. In the early 1900's the large artificial pond in the garden was still in
place. There is a photograph of the house in Helen P Smyth's book 'The Story of Booterstown'.
