NAME Hawthorn/Hawthorn Lodge
AREA LOCATION Blackrock, corner of Newtown Park and Carysfort Avenue. Now the site of
Hawthorn Manor.
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1838-1845 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of Stillorgan
Park and it is annotated as Hawthorn Lodge and Hawthorn respectively.
GENERAL Detached residence with offices, gardens and grounds, originally on 4 acres.
Its gatelodge was on Carysfort Avenue and the house was approached by a short avenue. The Victorian
cast iron gas lamps supported by dolphins (one broken) at Hawthorn Manor are the only reminder of
Hawthorn that survive.
YEAR BUILT circa 1830 rebuilt circa 1841
VALUATION In 1897 the valuation was 75 pounds and in the 1901 census it is noted as
having 12 rooms occupied by family.
