Robert Davies born 22 Jan 1778. He was of Fahy, Co Galway and a captain in the Galway Militia
He married Martha Dalton in February 1817 at Corofin. Martha was the daughter of the late
Edward Dalton of Nutfield, Moyglass, Co Clare and the late Elizabeth Powell. She was also the
granddaughter of the late Michael Dalton of Deerpark House, Co Clare. Robert died at Tuam in
November 1851. Martha died 16 Jan 1880 at 16 Ormond Road, Rathmines, her son Francis, the
informant and her executor.
1 Francis Robert Davies born 22 Jan 1818 in Co Clare attended Trinity College and as eldest
son was called to the Bar in 1842. He was a Knight of St John of Jerusalem receiving the
Johanniter Order in 1871. He was a member of the RIA and the RDS and lived at
Hawthorn from 1865 to 1907. He was president of The Saint John Ambulance Centre and
secretary to the Vestry at All Saints, Blackrock.
Francis adopted Bernard R Scott, and also adopted a boy called Robert Ruxton Raby son
Robert Raby, who lived with him at Hawthorn. Robert bred poultry and showed dogs. He
took part in numerous shows and won many awards. He married Margaret Ethel Henry,
daughter of John and Margaret Henry of Kingstown on 17 July 1888 at Monkstown and
the couple moved to 9 Sydney Avenue, but moved back to Hawthorn in 1890. They had
a son Robert Reginald Raby born 12 Jun 1889. In 1900 Robert moved to New York with a
Miss Katherine Sturdy and were living as man and wife. By 1901 Robert’s mother in law
had moved into Hawthorn with Francis Davies as his house keeper. Margaret took Robert
to court (in absentia) in 1901 citing physical and mental cruelty as well as adultery, and was
granted a decree for divorce.
Francis of Moyglass Manor and Hawthorn a bachelor died 23 Apr 1907 aged 89 and left
nearly 6K in personal estate. He bequeathed two antique gold rings and a silver ring
inscribed 12 Jul 1691 to Seymour George Pilkington Davies.
2 Susanna Davies only daughter married Walter Davies, son of the late Thomas Davies
of Roslevan, Co Clare at Aughrim, Ballinasloe on 2 Feb 1841.
