MAP LOCATION OSI map of 1837 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of Stillorgan Grove
and it is annotated as Stillorgan Park Cottage and The Cottage respectively.
GENERAL Described as being a Villa Cottage on 12 acres with 7 Bed chambers and 3 sitting
rooms in 1821 situated in the beautiful lawns of Stillorgan Park. It had out offices and 2 coach houses
and stabling for 6 horses. Grove Avenue was once a long straight formal avenue attached to the
Stillorgan Park with rows of trees either side. At least six villas were built backing on to this avenue by
1830s including Talbot Lodge. It was approached by a long avenue called Verschoyles Lane which
became Grove Avenue from Mount Merrion Avenue. It had no gatelodge and was subsumed into
Linden Nursing Home and Linden Place is built on the site.
