NAME New Park
AREA LOCATION Corner of Stillorgan Road and Newtownpark Avenue at entrance to Selandia.
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1838-1845 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of
Newpark and it is annotated as New Park on both.
GENERAL House originally purchased for £8000 circa 1800. In 1813 it was for sale and it
was described as having a handsome dining room and withdrawing room, a library and also a
gentleman's own room. It had five bedrooms and a dressing room also having a housekeepers room
and ample accommodation for servants. It had stabling, coach-house, peach and grape houses and
a new green house had just been built close to the house.
In 1854 the house was described as being a short distance from Belmont set on 47 acres. It had
coach-houses and stabling, a dairy and laundry. It also had a walled garden, green houses and a
grapery. During the tenure of Carter, an avenue was built from the house to Newtown Park Avenue
with a gatelodge and a gated entrance (now the entrance to a house called Selandia). It also had a
shared gatelodge on the Stillorgan Road. The gates are cast-iron with granite plinths supporting
cast-iron double gates with granite outer piers on cut-granite plinths supporting cast iron railings
with two lanterns and are still extant.
