Abraham Chatterton married Jane Tisdall

Abraham Chatterton, son of James & Catherine Chatterton graduated Trinity 1804
lived at Grenville Place, Cork city. He married Jane Tisdall, eldest daughter of
Rev Fitzgerald Tisdall and died before 1843.
1 Hedges Eyre Chatterton eldest son, born circa 1819 in the city of Cork, eldest
son of Abraham Chatterton, a solicitor, and Jane Tisdall daughter of the
Rev Fitzgerald Tisdall of Kenmare. He graduated Trinity and was called to the
Bar in 1847. He married Mary Halloran, daughter of the Rev William Halloran
on 11 Sep 1845 at Macroom. He was Solicitor General for Ireland from 1866
to 1867 and Attorney General for Ireland and Vice Chancellor from 1867 to
1904. He was a JP for counties Cork and Dublin and immortalised in James
Joyce’s Ulysses at Ned Lambert’s uncle. He was a Freemason, 33rd degree, a
member of the Kildare Street Club, the RDS and the Royal St George Yacht Club.
His yacht was the 60 ton schooner Murollo which he sailed to Glandore each
year for a summer holiday. They had a pink and grey cockatoo, but it wouldn’t
speak and was given to a neighbour. It managed to escape and although it was
spotted on various occasions around Stillorgan it was not recaptured. In March
1897 ‘The Vice’ as he was known, was ill in bed, the Privy council needed to meet
to swear in Field Marshal John Roberts due to the absence of the Lord Lieutenant
so they all had to troop out to Newpark. Mary got quite ill in 1897 and never
fully recovered. She died 22 Dec 1901 aged 77. They had no issue.
Hedges secondly married Florence Henrietta Gore, widow of Captain Edward
William Dunlo Croker of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and daughter of
Major Charles Gore, 72nd Seaforth Highlanders on 14 Aug 1902 in Devon, at
the home of Florence’s daughter Mrs Tuke. He died on the 30 Aug 1910 at
Newpark aged 91 leaving nearly 40k in personal estate. He was painted by Thomas
A Jones (1823-1893) RHA and the portrait was left to the Kings Inns where it still hangs.
He left 2K to his neighbour Cherise Darley of Ferney and also amounts and books to
her children. He was buried in Deansgrange with his first wife.
Florence died 26 Jan 1930 at 5 Sidmonton Square, Bray and was buried with Hedges
& Mary. They had no children but Hedges was step father to Alisa Nancy Croker who
married Robert Sheffield Stuart, and also to Violet Croker.
2 Abraham Thomas Chatterton, born circa 1825. He married Jane Shaw daughter of
B A Shaw on 13 Apr 1858 at Monkstown, Cork. A solicitor he was appointed Chief
Clerk of the Court of the Vice Chancellor of Ireland in 1867. He died 1 Jan 1908 at
10 Clyde Road aged 83.
1 Abraham Chatterton married Elizabeth Ena Waller of Shannon Grove,
Banagher on 8 Nov 1898 at St Stephens Church and lived at Kilgarvan,
Enniskerry, Co Wicklow.
1 Abraham Eyre Chatterton born 23 Jul 1904 at Kilgarvon.
2 Bernard Chatterton born 14 Dec 1868 at Killiney was a medical doctor.
3 Mary Chatterton married Rev Charles Faulkner, son of Hugh Faulkner of Fort Faulkner
on 8 Mar 1849 at St Luke’s Church, Cork
