Belgrove (UCD)
NAME Priesthouse/Belgrove
AREA LOCATION Stillorgan Road opposite Cranford Court.
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1838-1845 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of Roebuck
and it is annotated as Priesthouse and Belgrove respectively and later as
Belgrove Nursery.
GENERAL 1783: This holding of 10 acres included four cabins along the road and one
further back. It was leased to Nowlan. 1832: the estate of John Goddard Richards. Leased by the
late Lord Trimbleston to Kearney in 1788 who sold interest to Greene, who assigned to Carroll,
under whom Edward Gerty/Geraghty holds the lease.
‘There is on this holding an ancient small dwelling house with a trifling new addition. The whole
consisting of seven rooms, garden, stabling for six horses, coach house, parlour, lodge and gate.’
(Brassington 1832). Name changed to Belgrove circa 1867.
In 1888 it was for sale described as a commodious residence on 10 acres in need of repair with a
small stream running through the grounds.

VALUATION In the 1901 census it is noted as having 10 rooms occupied by family. No
valuation found.
