Solomon Richards was born in York Street, Dublin about 1760, the second son of Goddard Richards
and Anne Hewetson of Grange, County Wexford. He was elected to the Dublin General Dispensary as
surgeon in 1787 and surgeon to the Meath Hospital in 1790. Surgeon Solomon of South Great
George’s Street married Elizabeth Groome, daughter of the Reverend Edward Groome of
Castlecomber, Co Kilkenny in in 1792. In 1803 he was elected president of the Royal College of
surgeons for a second time and his residence was Stephen’s Green. He was a member of the Royal
Irish Academy and elected a life member of the RDS in 1815. Solomon purchased the Roebuck
estate from Lady Trimleston in 1812. He won 10K in the lottery that same year. He also purchased an
estate at Ardamine, Co Wexford, from Sir Thomas Roberts in 1818. He died at Roebuck on 6 Nov 1819.
1 John Goddard Richards eldest son born November 1793 in Dublin was educated at Robert
Craig’s school at Frescati and graduated Trinity in 1814. He was an Irish barrister, justice of
the peace, and he was High Sheriff of Wexford for 1824. He was the eldest son and heir and
inherited the land at Roebuck Estate in County Dublin and the Ardamine Estate in Co
Wexford on the death of his father. He married Anne Catherine Ward, daughter of the Hon
Robert Ward by his second wife Louisa Jane Symes on 6 Jul 1821 at Bangor, Co Down. Anne
Catherine died at Ardamine on 10 May 1835 aged 34.
1 Louisa Elizabeth Godard Richards eldest daughter born 11 May 1824 baptised at Taney
Church. Louisa married George Maconchy of Edenmore at Peter’s Church on
27 Apr 1843. Louisa died 13 Dec 1864 after the birth of her daughter.

2 Mary Ann Goddard Richards second daughter born 21 Nov 1825 baptised at Taney
Church. Marianne married Samuel Johnson of Wexford at Ardamine Church on
5 Nov 1850.
3 Solomon Augustus Goddard Richards born 16 Aug 1826 baptised at Taney Church.
Solomon married Sophia Mordant Ward at St Peter’s Church Dublin on 10 Jun 1856.
Sophia was the daughter of Rev Bernard John Ward, Bangor. Solomon died at Ardamine
13 Jan 1874 and left 18K in personal estate.

4 Emily Sophia Goddard Richards born 25 May 1830 baptised at Taney Church married the
Reverend Philip Walter Doyne, vicar of Monart, County Wexford at Clone Church Co Wexford
on 25 Apr 1849.
1 Robert Walter Doyne, second son born circa 1857 at Monart, Co Wexford. He
married Gertrude Hope Hollings, daughter of John Hollings of The Watchetts, Surrey
on 7 Jul 1885 at St Saviour’s Church, South Hamspstead. In 1886, he founded the
Oxford Eye Hospital, and in 1909 became the first president of the Oxford
Ophthalmological Congress.
5 Robert Edward Goddard Richards born 31 Jan 1832 baptised at Taney Church took Holy
Orders and married Katherine Maud Pickering on 18 Oct 1870 at St Margaret’s, Addington,
Kent.
6 William Hamilton Goddard Richards born 29 Dec 1833 baptised at Taney Church. William
joined the army and attained the rank of captain in the 55th Foot. He married Margaret
Isabella Laurence on 4 Aug 1858 at St Mark’s Church, St Helier’s Jersey. Margaret was the
daughter of Brevet Major S H Laurence of Belmont, Cork. He was appointed Instructor of
Military Drawing and Surveying at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst in 1863. Colonel
Richards retired in 1889 Brig General Richards of the South-Eastern Volunteers Infantry
Brigades died 18 Apr 1895 at Brighton and was buried at Hove.
He secondly married Mary Adams Rawson, eldest daughter of the Sir William Adams Rawson
and Jane Rawson of Belmont, County Wicklow on 5 May 1840. They had a town house at
Merrion Square which they used in the winter. John died on 13 Apr 1846 in London and was
buried at Ardamine Graveyard where there is also a memorial window. Mary secondly married
John Billingsley Parry, an English Judge.
2 Edward Richards born circa 1797 graduated Trinity and took Holy orders. He married Emily
Saurin, daughter of the Rt Rev James Saurin, Bishop of Dromore at Brighton in March 1824.
Edward was rector at Loughbrickland in 1834 and was promoted to Rector of Clonallon in 1836.
He died 12 Feb 1883 and Emily died 6 Sep 1866 aged 82 at Rathturrett, Co Down.

Isle of Man College and became a civil engineer.

3 Solomon Richards born 1798 attended Trinity and graduated in 1815. He married Katherine
Wynn, daughter of the Rev Henry Wynn, Rector of Drumshambo in 1831. They lived at
Solsborough in Waterford/Wexford. Solomon died 14 Aug 1862.
4 Marianne Richards only daughter born circa 1800 married Rev Henry Wynn Junior at Taney
Church on 31 Oct 1824.
