AREA LOCATION Enclosed at the head of Montpelier Place, Blackrock
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1838-1845 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of Montpelier
and it is annotated as Recess on the 1838 map but unnamed in 1898.
GENERAL In 1859 the house was described as being enclosed by a circular railing, with
a garden 200 feet deep, highly cultivated. Its main entrance was from Montpelier place and it also
had a private entrance from the Monkstown Road.
YEAR BUILT circa 1821
VALUATION In 1861 the valuation was 18 pounds and in the 1911 census it is noted as
having 9 rooms occupied by family.
