Kilternan old Church and Graveyard is on Bishops Lane in Kilternan, Co Dublin. It is surrounded by a stone wall and a overgrown bank. Across the road in the distance a clump of trees hides the ruins of Kilternan Abbey House, home at one time to Joseph Mary Plunkett.
The ruins of the church appear to date from the 12th century and the church seems to have sunk into the mound it was built on.
The graveyard is closed to burials and is well kept. Brian Cantwell transcribed the memorials in 1978 and Egan and Flatman transcribed them in 1989. Transcriptions are available at a number of repositories including the RCB Library in Churchtown and Dublin City Library in Pearse Street. The headstones are very weathered and reading them has been difficult. The headstones were photographed in May 2016 and in some instances, the images had to be digitally enhanced to read. Nine memorials from this graveyard were published in 1931 -See Journal No 6, Vol. 12 of the Association for the Preservation of Memorials of the Dead in Ireland.
