NAME Brookfield
AREA LOCATION Brookfield, a small cul-de-sac off Mount Merrion avenue.
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1838-1845 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of Blackrock
and it is annotated as Brookfield on both.
GENERAL Brookfield was a back to back house with Brooklawn. It was built on a 2.5 acre
semicircular plot with a gatelodge and a sweeping avenue to each house front. It had 12 rooms and
still on 2.5 acres when it was for sale in 1932. There was a fire in the house in 1940 which damaged
the kitchen.
YEAR BUILT circa 1820
VALUATION In 1870 the valuation was 55 pounds and in the 1911 census it is noted as
having 14 rooms occupied by family.
