Collegnes
NAME Collegnes/Callagnus/ St Andrews College Campus
AREA LOCATION Booterstown Avenue
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1838-1845 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of Booterstown
and it is annotated as Callagnus and Collegnes respectively. The address was
given as Gardiner's Row in the 19th Century. This short terrace led to the farm,
garden and gatelodges of St Helen's House and was named "Gardener's Row"
as the garden staff for Sans Souci House, St Helen's House and other houses in
Booterstown lived in the cottages.
GENERAL The original house built circa 1775 was a 3 bay simple Georgian plain square
house. It was extended by adding to each side of the main house. The pedimented window, the
architraves added to the window and the Ionic pedimented porch seem to all be of the same
period. In 1931 the garden was covered in 'yards and yards of wisteria' and had Kowhai trees
that were over 30 feet high.
YEAR BUILT circa 1775
VALUATION In 1869 the valuation was 144 pounds and in the 1911 census it is noted as
having 22 rooms occupied by family.
