George Johnston of Laputa, Donegal married Elizabeth Glasgow on 05.07.1803 at St Mary’s,
Dublin. His son Robert Johnston, a barrister married Dorcas Tivy eldest daughter of
Charles Payne Tivy of Belgrave Place, Cork in 1862. Robert was a Judge at Laputa, Donegal.

1 Walter Edgeworth-Johnstone eldest son born circa 29.05.1863 Kingstown changed
his name from Johnston to Edgeworth-Johnstone by deed poll. He was educated
at St Columba’s College and TCD. An excellent footballer and cricket player he was
Amateur Boxing heavyweight champion in 1895 and 1896. A Lieutenant in the
Royal Irish Regiment he was promoted to captain in 1893. In 1900 he was
appointed to act temporarily as assistant Inspector of Gymnasia at Aldershot and
later transferred to the Curragh Camp.
Walter married Helen Gunning (Nellie) Walker-Waters, 5th daughter of Samuel
Abraham Walker-Waters RIC County Inspector of Chute Hall, Tralee on 23.11.1897
at the Parish Church, Tralee. Walter was chief commissioner of the Dublin
Metropolitan Police from 1915 to 1923 and was named a companion of the Order
of the Bath in 1918 and invested as a Knight Commander of the Order of the
British Empire in 1924.
During 1922 the family lived at Collegnes in Blackrock. Walter retired in 1923 and
died on 04.01.1936 aged 69 years at Regents Park Terrace, London. Dame Helen
died on 25.05.1953 at 32 The Avenue, Cheam, Surrey. Probate to son Robert.
1 Robert Edgeworth-Johnstone born 04.02.1900 Dublin educated at
Wellington College and the Royal Military Academy. He worked for the
Magadi Soda Company in Kenya. Returning to England he became a chemical
engineer and married Jessie Marjorie Greig in 1931 in Hampstead. He was a
keen musician and developed a keyless flute. In 1960 Robert was appointed
the first Lady Trent Professor of Chemical Engineering by the University of
Nottingham. Jessie died in 1981 in Brighton and Robert died in 1994 at
Sablé-sur-Sarthe, Pays de la Loire, France.
2 Lynette Edgeworth-Johnstone born 05.05.1905 at Portobello House, of
Dunfanaghy. Lynette went to the West Indies in 1935.
3 Walter Edgeworth-Johnstone born circa 1910. Walter a Geologist of 23
Westbourne Terrace, London arrived from Kenya in 1937 and left in 1938 for
Guatemala. Walter married Mrs Marie Alexena Rogers née Senior on
24.09.1946 at Holy Trinity, Brompton. Walter died on 28.12.1993 of Blandford
Farm Cottage West St, Fontmell Magna, Dorset.
4 Joyce Edgeworth-Johnstone born 08.12.1914 at Drumahoe, Derry.
2 Lizzie Johnston born 08.08.1864 at Crosthwaite Park, Kingstown. Lizzie died
unmarried on 10.03.1919 at Crichton, Royal Dunfries late of Ballygallon. Probate
to brothers Walter and Robert.
3 Dr Ralph William Johnston born 23.08.1866 at Crosthwaite Park. Ralph of 10
Chichester Street married Edith Marion Waters eldest daughter of Samuel Waters
County Inspector RIC on 14.02.1893 at St Saviour’s Church, St George’s Square,
London. Ralph of 4 Edwardes Place, Kensington died on 26.08.1915 at Brooke
House, Clapton, Middlesex. Probate to Edith Marion Jane Wright.
4 Edith Johnston born 21.11.1867 at 11 Crosthwaite Park, Kingtown. Edith married
George Bellingham Newport a Land Agent of Rockview, Innistioge, Kilkenny son of
Charles Newport on 11.01.1887 at Inniscarra Church, Cork. George died in 1920
and Edith died on 25.12.1949 aged 83 years at Ballygannon, Innistioge.

5 Major Robert Johnston VC born circa 13.08.1872 in Donegal. Robert played Rugby
twice for Ireland and three times for the Lions and was one of only four rugby
internationals to win the Victoria Cross. Both his appearances for Ireland came in
1893 and he was picked to tour South Africa with the Lions in 1896. Robert received
the VC in 1901. In that same year he was staying with his sister Edith. Robert died
unmarried on 24.03.1950 at Aut Even Hospital, Kilkenny late of Ballygallon, Innistioge.
