NAME Merrion Lodge/Lis-a-Lea/Lisalea
AREA LOCATION Corner of Mount Merrion Avenue and Frascati Road (originally called Trimbush Hill)
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1838-1845 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of Blackrock and
it is noted at Lisalea on both maps. However it was known as Merrion Lodge from
1783 to 1830.
GENERAL When Frescati was sold in 1807, included in the sale was Merrion Lodge. It is
described at having three reception rooms and six bedrooms standing on a acre laid out in pleasure
grounds and gardens. In 1857 still on one acre and now surrounded by a high wall. When Lisalea House
was demolished, its lands were incorporated into the Frescati Estate.
YEAR BUILT circa 1780
VALUATION In 1893 the valuation was 57 pounds and in the 1911 census it is
noted as having 11 rooms occupied by family.
