Carroll Patrick Naish son of Patrick Carroll Naish and Ann England Johnson married Marian
Sampson at St Andrew’s, Westland Row on 15 Jan 1824. Mary died 13 Dec 1836 at
Ballycullen.
1 Caroll John Nash baptised 23 May 1825 at St Michael’s Limerick City. He married
Eleanor Mary Staunton in May 1855. Eleanor was the only child of Michael J
Staunton of Ballysimon, Limerick. He was appointed commissioner of Peace in 1855.
He was a vice chair of the Rathkeale Guardian and later looked after the
administration of provisions to the Poor House. Carrol died on 18 Mar 1874, four
days after his pruning knife slipped and severed a vein. Eleanor moved to Victoria
Terrace after his death. He left 1K in personal estate.

Charles Wallnut of Scariff, Co Clare in September 1849 at Askeaton Church.
3 Anne Naish second daughter born January 1828 at Catherine Street Limerick,
baptised 23 Jan 1828 at St Michael’s, Limerick City. She married Roger O’Sullivan on
12 Jan 1867. Roger was the manager of the Munster Bank, Rathkeale.

4 Elizabeth Naish third daughter baptised 15 Nov 1830 at St Michael’s, Limerick City.
She married Gerard Griffin of Ballyclough on 3 Oct 1853 at Ballycullen.
5 Caroline Naish baptised 16 May 1832 at Askeaton became a Sister of Charity in 1855.
Sister Mary Joseph died 12 Nov 1858 at the Convent of Mercy, Athlone a year after
taking her final vows.
6 Helena Naish fifth daughter died at Ballycullen on 26 Oct 1853.
Carrol Patrick secondly married Anna Margaret O’Carroll at the Pro Cathedral on 15 Sep 1840.
Anna was the daughter of the late John Carroll of Ardagh, Co Galway. He lost most of his
property at Ballycullen in 1846 due to the potato crop failure. Carrol died on 17 Apr 1861 and
left £20 in personal estate. Anna died aged 70 at 5 Fitzgibbon Street on 24 Dec 1884.
7 John Naish second son born 15 Aug 1841 at Ballycullen, Co Limerick was educated in
Clongowes and Trinity College. He was called to the Bar in 1865. He was a barrister
of Ballycullen House, Askeaton, Co Limerick and married Maude Mary Dease on
15 Aug 1884 at the RC Church Turbotstown. Maude was the second daughter of
James Arthur Peter Joseph Dease and Charlotte Agnes Jerningham. He was Solicitor-
General for Ireland from January 1883 and Attorney-General for Ireland from
December 1883. He served as Lord Chancellor of Ireland from 1885 to 1886. They had
three children. John died at the German spa town of Bad Ems on 17 Aug 1890 aged 48
late of 65 Mountjoy Square. Maud was living in Westmeath in 1901 and died 16 Jul 1920
at an Oxford nursing home.

9 Daughter Naish Stillborn at Limerick in June 1844.
10 Richard Naish third son baptised 10 Aug 1845 at Askeaton. He was joint manager of
the National Bank in Dublin. He was a stockbroker and a member of the Dublin Stock
Exchange and had offices at 29 Anglesea Street where he operated as Naish and
McCann. He was living in Bray and married Emily Mary Gray on 14 Aug 1882 at St
Alphonsus Church, Ballybrack. Emily was the youngest daughter of Sir John Gray, MD
and MP and Mary Anna Dwyer. They lived at Trafalgar Terrace from 1883 to 1894. He
separated from his wife in 1894 and she took their son and he took their daughter.
However, the consensual separation ran into difficulty when Emily took their son
Malcolm out of the county which was contrary to their agreement. He lived at
Rosemount from 1897 to 1900 and Emily travelled the continent and settled at
Keswick, Cumberland. He died 6 Feb 1900 and left 117K in personal estate. He was
interred at Askeaton Abbey. Emily died in April 1924 at Keswick. Her remains were
repatriated and she was buried at Mount Jerome.
1 Alicia Maria Anna Francesca Naish born 17 May 1887 at Trafalgar Terrace.
She lived with her father when her parents separated. She married Roger
Charles Noel Bellingham on 1 Jan 1910 at Strabannon Church near
Castlebellingham. Roger was a lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery and the
second son of Sir Henry Bellingham of Castle Bellingham and his first wife Lady
Constance Julia Eleanor Georgiana Noel. Sir Henry gave the bride a diamond
and amethyst cross which had been given as a gift to his grandmother by
Queen Adelaide. Roger was aide de camp to the Lord Lieutenant. He was
killed in action on the 4 Mar 1915.
1 Constance Catherine Mary Pia Bellingham born 21 Oct 1912 married
Brendan Charles Russell on 23 Apr 1935 at Castlebellingham.
2 Malcolm John Naish born 11 Aug 1883 at Trafalgar Terrace, Blackrock. He
assumed the additional surname Gray. He married Elsie Gertrude Harper in
1902 in London and they lived at Lis-a-Lea on Mount Merrion Avenue from
1902 to 1906. They were living at West Chinnock, Somerset in 1911. He joined
the British army in 1906 and served with the Prince of Wales's Leinster Regiment
(Royal Canadians) during WW1. He was pensioned out of the army suffering
from They separated in 1920. Elsie was a school mistress at Keswick secondary
School and Malcolm was a schoolmaster at Manchester Grammar. Malcolm J
Naish-Gray took his own life by stepping in front of a train on 6 Feb 1922.
Probate of his £5 personal estate was granted to his widow.
11 Redmond Naish fourth son born circa 1849 was a civil servant. He married Mary
McDermott in 1882 and they lived at Proby Square, Blackrock in 1911. They had four
children of whom three survived.
12 Frances Mary Margaret Naish baptised on 2 Jun 1850 at the Pro Cathedral married
Laurence Rourke on 11 Sep 1876. They lived at Flora Villa, Clondalkin. They had
seven children of whom five survived in 1911.
13 Vincent Naish born August 1852 in Limerick joined the Jesuits. He taught at Clongowes
and Tullabeg for six years before going to work for the foreign mission. He was recalled
and worked in Manchester, England and in Canada. He died in Montreal on 13 Jun 1913.
14 Edmond Roger Joseph Naish born December 1858 baptised 23 Dec 1858 at St
Michael’s Limerick. He was living at 5 Fitzgibbon Street in 1884 and was left a sum in the Will of his brother Richard.
