NAME Elysium, Stillorgan Old Glebe/St Ita's/The Georgian House/The Crock of

AREA LOCATION Stillorgan/Blackrock, off Holly Park Avenue - off Newtownpark Avenue.
MAP LOCATION OSI maps of 1838-1845 and 1898-1913 place it in the townland of Stillorgan
Glebe (part of Stillorgan) and it is annotated as Glebe House and St Ita's
respectively. Originally on 28 acres, the land was held by Lady Allen and
leased to Peter Warren in 1758. The Glebe House was erecting during the
incumbency of the Rev Beather King and is possibly the house marked as
Elysium beside the Widow's Asylum on Duncan's Map of 1821. 1863 was a
mild winter and Rev Gray had strawberries growing in the open air in December.
It was sold by the Diocesan Council in 1886 and the name was changed to St
Ita's circa 1887. It was for sale on 1 acre in 1919.
GENERAL Detached three-bay two-storey glebe house with flat-roofed projecting porch and
Gibbsian granite doorcase. The porch has a nice round-headed window opening
with cut-granite sill. Other windows opes are square-headed with cut-granite sills,
hood mouldings above two-over-two timber sash windows. It had two
gatelodges. The back lodge is no longer extant and the front lodge became
Chestley Lodge.
YEAR BUILT circa 1770
VALUATION In 1912 the valuation was 56 pounds and in the 1901 census it is noted as having
16 rooms occupied by family.
