NAME Booterstown Castle/St Mary's

MAP LOCATION OSI map of 1838 - 1845 place it in the townland of Williamstown and
is annotated as Booterstown Castle.
GENERAL A fifteenth century fortified house which is now incorporated into
St Mary's, 54 Booterstown Avenue. It was for sale in 1774 on 4 acres. In 1779 it was for lease by
Mr D'Olier having spent 300L on it. It was called St Mary's by 1840 and was in use as the parochial
house for the RC Church in Booterstown (the church was built in 1812 and was called St Mary's
prior to being dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption in 1950). In 1900 is was No 50
Booterstown Avenue.
YEAR BUILT c1439
VALUATION In 1862 the valuation was 39 pounds and in the 1901 census it is noted
as having 20 rooms occupied by 12 people.
