Rev John Grant, rector of Clondalkin married Jane Grant. John died circa 1815 and Jane died at
Webster Place, Haddington Road on 20 Sep 1844.

3 Martha Grant eldest daughter born 1803 at Clondalkin Glebe married Robert Dundas at
Glasnevin Church on 30 Mar 1822.
4 John Grant born 1805 at Clondalkin Dublin graduated Trinity. He was ordained in 1828,
curate of Monkstown in 1837 and in 1843 he became curate of St Stephen’s, Dublin. He
published a number of tracts including ‘Religious Objections to the Hibernian Temperance
Society; answered’ and the National Education System of Ireland; considered’. He was
appointed to Kilshilly, Naas but exchanged with Rev Kelly of Stillorgan in April 1845 and
was instituted at perpetual curate in June 1845. He married Anna Maria Scovell, at
Monkstown Church on 20 Oct 1846. Anna was the eldest daughter of Henry Scovell of
Ferney, Galloping Green, Stillorgan and John was living at Belmont Place. John was curate
of St Stephen’s, Dublin and exchanged with Rev Kelly of Stillorgan. John died at Spezia,
Tuscany of fever on 7 Apr 1858 and was buried at the Protestant cemetery at Leghorn.
A memorial was erected at Stillorgan Church. Anna Maria was lived at Garnaville from
1858 to 1870. She died 11 Apr 1888 at 98 Pembroke Road and was buried at
Deansgrange. She left 6K in personal estate.
1 Alice Jane Grant eldest daughter born 12 Nov 1847 at Stillorgan Glebe. She
married Robert William Hillas on 8 Jul 1865 at Stillorgan Church. Robert was a
widower living at Beaufield, Stillorgan and Alice was a minor living at Garnaville,
Stillorgan.
2 Henry John (Harry) Grant, eldest son born 17 Feb 1949 at Stillorgan Glebe joined
the Royal Navy. He was 4th Officer and drowned on 11 Jan 1866 when the SS
London floundered in the Bay of Biscay bound for Melbourne. There is a plaque
in his memory at Stillorgan Church.
3 Charles Scovell Grant born 21 Jun 1850 became a medical doctor. He published a
successful book on Hygiene and Tropical diseases. Colonial surgeon Charles Grant
died at Lagos, West Africa on 19 Jul 1887. There is a plaque in his memory at
Stillorgan Church.
4 Emma Fielding Grant, second daughter born 8 Feb 1852 at Stillorgan Glebe. Emma
married Benjamin Francis M'Dowell on 20 Jul 1870 at Stillorgan Parish Church.
Francis MD, TCD was living at York Street at the time of his marriage and was the son
of Robert M'Dowell.
5 Donald St John Dundas Grant youngest son born 9 May 1858 at Stillorgan Glebe
was baptised at Stillorgan Church. He was educated at St Columba’s College and
Trinity College. He studied medicine and entered the military attaining the rank of
Colonel. He was a surgeon with the Bengal Army, Indian Medical Service from 1881.
He married Frances Jessie Beasley on 8 Feb 1886 at Lahore. Frances was the
daughter of Richard Beasley of Herbert Place, Dublin and Old Grange Co Kildare. He
was still registered with the IMS in 1913. He died in January 1933 in London.
5 Jane Grant third daughter born 1807 at Clondalkin died at Kingstown on 10 Jun 1829.
6 Hester Grant, youngest daughter born 1809 at Clondalkin married Graydon Medlicott of
Dunmurray, Co Kildare on 19 Aug 1834 at Carnarvon.
7 William Edward Grant youngest son born 1811 at Clondalkin joined the 58th Regiment.
Captain Grant died in action on 1 Jul 1845 in New Zealand.
