Alexander Crookshank born circa 1736 married Esher Kennedy, great-granddaughter
of Alderman John Crookshank on 12 Jul 1768. He was a judge of the Common Pleas for
18 years and MP for Belfast from 1776 to 1783. He lived at New Park from 1792 to
1813. He was elected life member of the RDS in 1803, his proposers were Reverend
Doctor Thomas Smyth and General Charles Vallancey. A memorial plaque was erected by
his widow and children at Monkstown Church. He was buried at Carickbrennan Graveyard.
Esther died 1 Feb 1826 and was buried with her husband.
1 George Crookshank, eldest son born circa 1769, senior council and MP for
Belfast in 1797. He died on 24 Jun 1831 at his house at Hawley Square,
Margate. His wife Anne Marie died same place on 7 Feb 1870.
2 Mary Crookshank eldest daughter born circa 1772. She died, the last surviving
daughter on 14 Jun 1852 aged 80 at Budleigh Salterton, Devon.
3 Isabella, second daughter born circa 1775 died 13 Feb 1837 at Rivers Street,
Bath.
4 Charles Henry Crookshank, second son born circa 1776 took Holy orders. He
married Harriet Jones, daughter of T M Jones of Moneyglas in February 1809. He
was rector of Tyhollan, Monahan for 24 years and died 19 Aug 1836 at Tyhollan
Glebe aged 60. The shops in the town closed for his funeral.

1834. He died at Tyhollan Glebe July 1835.
2 Robert Crookshank Solicitor married Olivia Henrietta Agnes Chambe
daughter of Hunt Walsh Chambe of Hawthorn Hill, Armagh on
30 Mar 1832 at St Thomas’s Church, Dublin. He was a solicitor with offices
at Gardiner Street.
3 Arthur Alexander Crookshank born circa 1790 educated Trinity, took Holy
orders and died 17 Nov 1874 at Hanover Square, Brighton.
5 Alexander Crookshank, born circa 1775 was a solicitor with premises at 21 Lower
Gardiner Street, handled the sale of the house in Newtown Park after the death of
his father. He married Jane L’Estrange on 27 Dec 1799. He secondly married
Mabella Smyth of Mountjoy Square, daughter of the late Henry Smyth of Harcourt
Street at St George’s Church on 27 Apr 1819. Mabella died from Cholera on
20 Aug 1832 at Cullenswood.
1 Samuel Crookshank married Frances Maughan, daughter of Charles
Maughan of Londonderry at St Georges 31 Jan 1827.
Alexander thirdly married Jane Millar MacBair, daughter of Robert MacBair and
granddaughter of Rev Dr Johnston of North Leith on 14 May 1833 at St Peter’s
Church, Dublin. It is thought they left for Cayaga the same year and returned to
Belfast in 1841 with their family. Alexander died at 101 Donegall Street circa
28 Feb 1845, he was the last surviving son of Judge Crookshank. His wife Jane,
who was educated in England opened a boarding school for young ladies at the
house in Donegall Street after her husband died. She died 20 Aug 1896 at 4
Crosthwaite Park East, Kingstown in her 94th year.
2 Robert Alexander Crookshank, elder son born circa 1834 in Canada married
Lizzie Hunter, third daughter of Robert Hunter, JP of Sligo. Robert worked
for Messrs A & S Henry, linen merchants of Belfast for 58 years. He was a
member of the Donegall Square Methodist Church and a local preacher. He
died at his residence Richmond, Marlborough Park on 25 Apr 1909 leaving
personal estate of 2.5k.
3 Charles H Crookshank born 29 Jan 1836 at Cayaga in Canada returned to
Ireland in 1841 and was educated at the Bluecoat School in Dublin and
Queens College Cork. He entered the ministry of the Methodist church in
1859 and was sent to Roscrea. His 46 years of ministry took him all over
Ireland including Dublin Skibbereen, Sligo and Kingstown before returning to
Roscrea. In 1903 he represented the Irish Conference at the General
Conference of the Methodist Church held in Los Angeles. He was author of
the ‘History of Methodism in Ireland’ and editor of the ‘Christian Advocate’.
He married Annie Howard, daughter of L Howard of Passage East on
11 Jun 1868. He secondly married Annie Boyle daughter of Francis
MacElwaine of Coleraine on 4 Jul 1871 and he thirdly married Jane Sullivan
of London on 15 Jan 1907 at Dublin. He had two daughters that predeceased
him and one son.

6 Samuel Crookshank born circa 1784 died from dysentery at Laurel Hill
Passage West on 21 Aug 1826 leaving a widow with ten daughters and one
son. The eldest was 16 years and the youngest was just one day old.
7 Elizabeth Ann Crookshank youngest daughter married John Fitzgibbon Sergeant
of Dominick’s Abbey, Limerick on 4 Mar 1813 at St Anne’s Church, Dublin.

2 Mary Isabella Sergeant, second daughter married Henry Charles
Deshon, second son of Major Deshon on 9 Feb 1841 at Chelsea.
8 Chichester William Crookshank, youngest son, born circa 1781 entered the army
in 1799, 51st Regiment. He served in the East Indies in 1801 and the Peninsular war
under Wellington. He married Charlotte Johnson, daughter of the Rev Charles
Johnson on 26 Feb 1818 at Southstoke Church. Lieut Col Crookshank KH died
1 Sep 1838 at Lyncombe near Bath.
1 Alexander Chichester Crookshank born circa 1820 died 8 Aug 1821 at
Boulogne sur Mer.
2 Arthur Chichester Crookshank, youngest son married Martha Jane
Lechmore, youngest daughter of Rev Allen Whitmore Lechmore of Fown
Hope Court, Hertfordshire at the British Consulate, Boulogne Sur Mer and
afterwards at the Upper Town Church on 23 Jun 1856.
1 Edgar March Crookshank born 1858. He was a bacteriologist and
Emeritus Professor and died July 1928 at East Grinstead, Sussex.
