Rev Edward Berwick ordained in 1776 Rector of the Parish of Esker and later Vicar of
Leixlip, Kildare married Ann Bermingham of Monkstown, a niece of Henry Grattan in
1791. Ann died circa 1800 aged 24 years.
1 George Berwick born circa 1799 Trinity College 03.07.1815 aged 16 years.
2 Walter Berwick born 26.04.1800 entered Trinity College 03.07.1815 aged 15 and
graduated BA in 1821. He was called to the Irish Bar in 1826. Walter was an Irish
Bankruptcy Judge. Walter and his sister Elizabeth Mary returning from a holiday
in Switzerland where he had been for his health met up with Louisa Symes
daughter of Arthur Rowley Symes of Ballybeg aged 10 years who was entrusted to
the Judge’s care for the journey home. All three died in the Welsh Railway Disaster
at Abergele on 20.08.1868. The Honorable Walter Berwick left 18K in personal
estate. The new wing at the Convalescent Home in Stillorgan was named in his
memory.
3 Elizabeth Mary Berwick also died on 20.08.1868 at Abergele.
Edward married secondly Rebecca Shuldham on 11.12.1802. Rebecca was the daughter
of Pooley Shuldham of Ballymulvey, Longford. Edward died 05.06.1820 and was buried
at Esker. Rebecca died aged 85 at 5 Upper Merrion Sttreet on 23.03.1855.
4 Edward Shuldham Berwick younger son born 07.07.1804 Leixlip, Kildare. Edward
lived with his tutor Dionysius Lardner in Bray and later Gardiner Street . Edward
graduated Trinity with a BA in 1827 and was called to the Bar in 1831. Edward a
barrister of 5 Upper Merrion Street, Dublin married Harriett Needham youngest
daughter of Thomas N Needham of St Edmondsbury, Lucan on 20.05.1846 at the
Parish Church, Lucan. Witnesses Walter Berwick and R Needham. Edward was
appointed to the office of Vice President of Queens College, Galway in 1845. They
lived at Trimleston House, Booterstown between 1872 and 1874. Edward died
07.03.1877 aged 72 years at Queens College, Galway. Harriett died 22.07.1894 at
7 Brennan’s Terrace, Bray aged 79 years. The Berwick Home and Hospital at
Bachelor’s Hall near Dundrum was founded by Mrs Harriett Berwick in memory of
her husband and only child and opened in 1896.
1 Harriet Mary Berwick the beloved and only child died on 11.08.1874 at
Trimleston formerly of Upper Merrion Street, Dublin
5 John Rawdon Berwick youngest son born 15.04.1809. John a land agent died
unmarried on 23.05.1889 aged 80 years at Coolfadda House, Bandon and is buried
at Christ Church Graveyard, Bandon.
