George Nesbitt born circa 1814 worked for Messrs Bourne of 48 Dawson Street, parcel agents
and contractors for mail coaches on 213 miles of road. They were also the owners of the ship
‘William Fawsett’. George Nesbitt of Synge Street married Mary Rossiter on 26 Dec 1840 at St
Peter’s Church, Dublin. Mary was the daughter of Ignatius Rossiter of Galbally, Wexford.
They employed over 2000 people but lost the mail coach contract in 1843. George bought
property in Blackrock in 1846 and was the owner of the Hibernian Hotel at 48 Dawson Street
from 1846 until he retired due to bad health in 1874. Mary died at Blackrock on 18 Mar 1862 at
Blackrock. His country address was Whitehall, Blackrock from 1854 to 1873. He died a widower
on 12 Dec 1874 at Kendalstown Lodge, Delgany and left 5K in personal estate.
1 William Nesbitt second son born circa 1844. William married Jane Louisa Macdonald on
13 Aug 1866 at the RC Chapel in Bray. William was the owner of the Hibernian Hotel and
a wine merchant on the death of his father. They lived at Dove House, Blackrock from
1874. He appointed James Hearne manager of the hotel in March 1875. William died at
118 Stephen Green West on 18 May 1875 aged just 31 and was buried at Deansgrange.
He left 3K in personal estate. Jane was living with her son William in 1901. Jane Louisa
died at 6 Phoenix Terrace, Booterstown on 14 Dec 1906 aged 64 and was buried at
Deansgrange with her husband.

4 Magdelane Frances Nesbit born 16 Sep 1872 118 St Stephen’s Green was baptised
at St Andrews.
5 William George Charles Nesbitt born 14 Jan 1874 at the Hibernian Hotel was
baptised at St Andrews. He married Mary Farrell on 1 Jun 1895 at Donnybrook RC
Church. Mary was the daughter of Richard Farrell, an officer and William was
resident at Haddington Road. They were living at Carlisle Avenue, Donnybrook in
1901 and William was an assistant cashier with the Alliance Gas Company. By 1911
William was the chief cashier and they were living at St Mary’s Booterstown Avenue.
The couple had no family. William a second Lieutenant with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers
was KIA at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli 15 Aug 1915. He left 4K in personal estate. Mary was
living at 8 Crosthwaite Park, Kingstown at the time of his death. He is commemorated
at the Helles Memorial.
2 Henry Bourne Nesbitt, youngest son born circa 1846 married Mary Imelda Beardwood at
St Andrews Church, Westland Road on 2 Jul 1868. Mary was the daughter of W H
Beardwood. Henry Nesbit died 17 Feb 1871 at Ballybrack.
