James Morell was the presbyterian minister of Ballibay in Co Monaghan. He married Letitia Harris
of Clinken on 12 Jun 1810 at Clones. The Morell family claimed descent from the Pasteur Louis
Francois Morel, Sieur de Collonges who on 25 May 1559 was chosen moderator of the First General
Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of France and whose family, bar one, was slaughtered after
the Edict of Nantes. James ran the Fairview Academy at Ballybay.
1 John Harris Morell born circa 1811 was appointed Presbyterian minister of Ballybay in 1834.
He lived at Fairview near Ballybay and married Mary Montgomery Russell on 15 Mar 1842.
Mary was the fourth daughter of John Russell of Newry. Mary died 15 Jul 1859 at Hollywood.
John died in August 1888 having spent over 50 years as the minister of Ballybay.
1 James Morell born circa 1849 was appointed Presbyterian minister of Ballybay on the
death of his father and continued the ministry until his death In December 1914. He
married three times and had one daughter by his first marriage.

3 Fanny Morell eldest daughter died 6 May 1841.
4 Charles Lucas Morell born 22 Jun 1820 at Ballybay Co Monaghan. He graduated Belfast
College and the University of Edinburgh. He was licenced to preach in 1841 and moved
to Dungannon in 1844 and set about refurbishing the church in 1870. He married Anne
Brown on 3 Mar 1848 at Castlecaulfield Presbyterian Church and they had seven children.
Charles a retired moderator of the General Assembly died at Scotch House, Dungannon
on 24 Jan 1896 aged 75 survived by his wife and five of his children. Annie died
26 Jul 1916.
1 Jane Morell born circa 1849 died in 1877.
2 Frances Morell born circa 1850 married W H Jackson of Bowelk House Ballybay.
3 Charles Lucas Morell born circa 1854 took holy order and was minister of
Drumkeen.
4 James Harris Morell born circa 1855, Inspector of Banks in Australia.
5 Henry Brown Morell born circa 1858, District Inspector with the RIC stationed in
Belfast in 1896.
6 Louis Francois Morell born circa 1864 died in 1866.
7 David Ernest Morell born circa 1870 studied music and was in America in 1896.
5 James Morrell born circa 1824 in Co Monaghan. He was appointed an Inspector of the
National schools in 1849. He married Mary Brown on 12 Aug 1856 at Dungannon. Mary
was the daughter of Henry Moore of Dunaghmorgh, Co Tyrone. He was a school inspector
and a district inspector by 1857. He moved from Dungannon to Belfast in 1870 and was
a head inspector by 1876. He became Secretary to the Education Commissioners in 1886
and lived at Dove house from 1886 to 1888. He was appointed a Commissioner of National
Education and had retired by 1896. Mary died 28 May 1914 and James died at Landsdown
Road, Belfast 16 Feb 1915.

2 Henry Brown Morell born circa 1860 was single and a teacher in 1911.
3 Frederick Morrell third son born circa 1863 was and insurance agent and died a
bachelor on 8 Apr 1921.
4 Wilfred Lawson Morell born circa 1867 was a barrister and died a bachelor in 1909.
5 Henrietta Maria Morell born circa 1868 married John Adams John at Belfast on
13 Jul 1899. John was resident in Dublin and the son of Robert Johns. They had no
children and Henrietta was a widow by 1911.
6 Isabella Maria Morell youngest daughter married Rev John Johnston Ehan of Swanlnbar, Co
Cavan at Aughnamullen Church on 19 Sep 1850.
