Patrick Carey a herd of Edenderry married Bridget Delaney and was deceased by 1901.
1 Jane Carey born 17 May 1867 at Clonkeen, Edenderry, Co Kildare. She worked for
Caroline Darley of The Grange as a laundress/domestic servant in 1901. She
married James Somers at St Brigid’s, Cabinteely on 30 Jun 1901. Her sister
Margaret was a witness. James was a herd of Carmen Hall, Sandyford and the
son of Michael Somers a shoemaker and his wife Julia from Cronyhorn, Co Wicklow.
They moved to Cheshire in 1906 but returned to Ireland by 1911 and were living
with their three children at Newford, Loughreagh, Galway in a house owned by
the Dept of Agriculture. Jane died 12 Apr 1942 at Newford, her son Michael the
informant. Her funeral was mass was held at St Mary’s, Athenry and she was
buried at the new cemetery. James retired and died aged 73 on 1 Nov 1945 at
Newford and was buried with his wife. His son Michael the informant.
1 Julia Patricia Somers born 12 Mar 1903 at Murphystown. She was a staff
maid in a hotel and died unmarried on 17 Mar 1964 at Newford and was
buried with her parents.
2 Michael Joseph Somers born 29 Sep 1905 in Newrath, Co Wicklow. He
was a herd and married Mary Ellen Madden on 1 Jan 1930 at Athenry
Church. Mary Ellen was the daughter of the late Edward Madden, a farmer.
Michael died on 24 Mar 1964 at the Regional Hospital, Galway, late of
Newford and was buried in the family plot at Athenry.
3 Patrick Joseph Somers born 1906 at Runcorn in Cheshire was a labourer.
He married Elizabeth Farrell at Athenry Church on 26 Jun 1929. Elizabeth
was the daughter of Patrick Farrell, a farmer.
1 Son Somers died 26 Jun 1933 at Newford having survived only 15
minutes.
2 Margaret Carey born 26 Mar 1870 at Clonkee, Edenderry, Co Kildare was a domestic
servant working at St Leonards, Avoca Avenue for the Stokes family. She was a
servant living at Clonkeen and married Michael Tyrrell of Clonkeen on 23 Jul 1906 at
Derinstown, Carbury. Michael was from Clonkeen and the son of John Tyrrell, a
labourer.
