Maurice Hime married Sophia Rhames, daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Rhames. Sophia’s mother was
a widow and had a music shop at Exchange Street. In 1795 he was in partnership with N Callwell and had a
Government Lottery Office at Capel Street. They lived at Moorfield from 1799 to 1828 and had a
large black Newfoundland dog. He built a house on the adjoining land (42 feet square, with coach-house)
which he rented out from 1810. Maurice Hime a music seller of 34 College Green was made a freeman of
Dublin in 1808 under the Guild of Stationers. In 1814, he moved the shop to 26 Dame Street and by 1818
his music warehouses were at Westmoreland Street, He died at his residence Moorfield on 28 Jan 1828.
Moorfield was put up for sale after his death and Sophia moved to Richmond Street. She died at Richmond
Street aged 79 in November 1841.
1 Maurice Callwell Hime born circa 1799 in Dublin attended Rev White's School at South Frederick
Street, graduated Trinity College and took Holy orders. Rev Hime of Roebuck married Harriette
Lloyd, second daughter of the Rev Dr Bartholomew Lloyd, Provost of Trinity and of Fitzwilliam
square in May 1829. They were living at the glebe in Moy, Co Tyrone in 1835. Maurice died in 1869
aged 71 and left 7K in personal estate. Harriet died 5 Sep 1875 at Victoria Castle, Killiney late of 4
Raglan Road aged 72 and left 12K in personal estate.
1 Albert Henry Hime born 29 Aug 1842 at Kilcoole, Co Wicklow was educated at Portora
Royal School, Enniskillen and graduated Trinity. He attended the Royal Military Academy
at Woolwich and in 1861 entered the Royal Engineers. He married Josephine Mary Searle
at Plymouth in May 1866 and they moved to Bermuda where he was the engineer in charge
of building the famous causeway. After the completion of the causeway Albert Hand and his
family moved to South Africa, where he served as Premier of Natal from 1899 to 1903. Lt
Col The Rt Hon Sir Albert Henry Hime died 13 Sep 1919. The village of Himeville, in the
KwaZulu-Natal midlands was named after him.
1 Charles Frederick William Hime born 24 Oct 1869 was a South African cricketer
who played in one Test in 1896 and died 6 Dec 1940.
2 Bartholomew Clifford Hime born circa 1832 died a bachelor on 8 Mar 1874 aged 42 at 4
Raglan Road and left 4K.
3 Sophia Hime only daughter born at Ballydonarea House, Kilcoole on 22 Feb 1841 married
John Henry Chapman, MD of Pembroke Street on 16 Jul 1867 at St Mary’s Church,
Donnybrook.
4 Frederick Hime born circa 1837 a Major in the Royal Engineers married Mary Gardener on
27 Apr 1881at All Saints', Cheltenham. He died in Rio circa 1882.
1 Frederick Harold Hime baptised in India in 1881.
5 Maurice William Hime, fourth son born circa 1835 took Holy orders. Maurice , Government
Garrison Chaplain died of Cholera at Jhansee, Central India on 8 Sep 1869.
2 John Rhames Hime born circa 1810 married Susan Black on 13 Sep 1838, eldest daughter of John
Black of Sligo. John was an attorney working from 31 College Green in 1828 and living at Lower
Gardiner Street and died 7 Oct 1843 at Shanganagh, near Bray. Susan died on 11 Dec 1906 at
Hillmount some 63 years after the death of her husband.
1 Thomas Whiteside Hime born August 1839 at Lower Gardiner Street married Annie Tate on
17 May 1867 at St Thomas’ Church. Annie was the second daughter of John Tate, JP of
Wicklow. Thomas was surgeon to the Sheffield Police Force and medical officer of health
for the borough. Thomas died at Bradford on 9 Nov 1920.

2 Maurice Charles Hime, second son born November 1840 at Lower Gardiner Street
graduated Trinity in 1858. He was appointed headmaster of the Diocesan school In
Monaghan in 1867 and Headmaster of Foyle College in 1870. He married Mary Stuart
Robinson on 24 Dec 1870 at Tartaraghan Church. Mary was the youngest daughter of Rev
George Robinson, Rector of Tartaraghan and died from septicemia on 4 Jul 1879 at Foyle
College aged 29.
1 John Godfrey Whiteside Hime born 5 Dec 1871 at Tartaraghan Rectory, Loughgall, Co
Armagh. John joined the army and died a bachelor at Inishown 8 Jul 1959.
2 Maurice George Hime born 13 Feb 1873 at Tartaraghan, Co Armagh.
3 Charles Richardson Hime born circa 1874. He was a solicitor living at Hillmount
when he married Marion Elizabeth Sinclair on 9 Mar 1908 at St Mary’s Londonderry.
Marion was living at Dundarg and the daughter of James Sinclaire.
4 Mary Henrietta Hime born 29 Feb 1876 at Eglish married Brian O’Brien, doctor of
medicine on 3 Feb 1903. Brian was the son of Charles M O’Brien, a land agent.

McClintock on 26 Mar 1904 at Templemore, Londonderry.
Maurice secondly married Rebecca Apjohn on 8 Jul 1887 at Booterstown Church. Rebecca
was the daughter of James Apjohn of South Hill House, Mount Merrion Avenue. They lived
at Hillmount House, Londonderry. Rebecca died at Inishowen on 17 Sep 1919 aged 78.
Maurice died at Inishown 11 Nov 1924 and was buried at Derry City Cemetery, and was
buried with his mother.
3 Frances Harriette Hime born 11 Jan 1842 at Lower Gardiner Street was living at 26 Waltham
Terrace when she married Rev Frederick Stephen Aldhouse at Booterstown Church on
10 Jan 1871. Frederick was an engineer living at Monaghan and was the son of Frederick
Aldhouse.
4 Henry William Lovett Hime born 17 May 1843 at Lower Gardiner Street joined the army.
He was the author of a number of books including The origin of artillery published in 1815.
Lieut Col Hime died 22 Nov 1929 at Richmond in Surrey.
3 Sophia Hime married Henry Blankley Haffield on 20 Jun 1929 at St Peter's.
4 Sarah Hime, fourth daughter married Rev Edward Maurice Hearn of Hurst Green, Lancs on
2 Sep 1845 at Peter's Church.
