Hickman Kearney son of Michael Kearney and Gertrude Hickman married Anne Franks daughter
of Thomas Franks and Catherine Day of Ballymagooly, Cork in 1802. He was a merchant selling
"Strong Well-Flavoured Whiskey" from 12 Bachelor walk in 1805. In 1806 he was operating from 44
Abbey Street and went bankrupt in 1814. The lease on Lota and the household furniture was sold
and they moved to Seafort Lodge in Williamstown. His stores at Grand Canal near St James and his
kiln and stores and Grand Canal dock were also liquidated. 53 Abbey Street was put on the market
in 1818. He still had Park House, Banagher in 1821.
He was appointed to the city grand jury in 1804 and was foreman of same in 1823 and a warden
of the Guild of Merchants the same year. In 1825 he was bankrupt again and in 1827 was appointed
to The Paving Board. They were living in Belleville, Williamstown in 1837 but by 1845 were living at
Monkstown where Anne died on 01.03.1845. Hickman died on 11.04.1851 at 3 Brookville, Monkstown,
both are buried at St Pauls.
1 Margaretta Kearney born circa 1803 married Richard Spear Peile, of Westmoreland Street
on 27 Nov 1821 at Cloghan. Richard qualified as a surgeon in 1828 and was Deputy
Inspector General of Hospitals. He died at his residence Rossinara, Co Kilkenny in 1849.
1 Richard Spear Peile born circa 1822 was a MD and Assistant surgeon to the 91st
Regiment. He married Eliza Emily Anne Francis, youngest daughter of Thomas
Francis of the Revenue Department on 11 Oct 1849 at the King's Chapel, Gibraltar
and died on 24 Jul 1853 aged 31.
2 Son Peile born 24 Oct 1829 at Rossinara, Kilkenny.
3 Henry Peile, third son born circa 1831 died 6 Feb 1852.
4 Daughter Peile born 1 Jan 1834 at Rossenara, Kilkenny.
5 Son Peile born at Rossenarra on 5 May 1835.
6 Daughter Peile, twelfth child born 5 May 1841 at Old Rossinara, County Kilkenny.
2 Rev Thomas Franks Kearney ordained at Christchurch in 1836 and was Curate of
Ballyporeen. He was given the living of Kilbehenny in 1841 and resigned from the
incumbency in 1875.
3 Gertrude Kearney born circa 1807 died at Kilbehenny Rectory near Mitchestown on
16 Jan 1868.
4 Hickman Kearney 3rd son born circa 1808 married Selina Hare Molesworth 4th daughter of
the late Major General Molesworth of the Madras Army on 09.03.1844 at St Mary’s Church,
Paddington. Hickman was appointed agent to the Norwich Union Life and Fire Societies in
1837 and his agency terminated in 1853. He died suddenly on 27.10.1869 aged 61 years at
his residence Jeffrey’s Road, Chapham. Selena died on 22.01.1891 aged 72 years at Ash
Vicarage, Martock.
1 Rev Arthur Henry Kearney born circa 1852 Booterstown living with the Molesworth
family in Kent 1871 aged 19 years. Arthur the Vicar of Ixworth, Suffolk married Sarah
Ellen Taylor daughter of Alexander Taylor of Mumps, Oldham, Lancashire on
25.09.1879 at St Peter’s Parish Church, Guernsey. In 1891 Arthur was the Vicar of
Ash in Martock. Arthur died on 29.03.1935 aged 83 years of Parkfield Vicarage,
Middleton.
5 Lucy Anne Kearney youngest daughter died 19.03.1850 at Brookville, Monkstown.
