Goold family of Carysfort Lodge
Thomas Goold born in Cork circa 1766 to John Goold and Mary Quin. On the death of his father
he received an inheritance of ten thousand pounds which he spent freely. Kitty Netterville aka
Kitty-cut-a-dash was a close companion in Dublin before he went on a grand tour which took in
France and Germany. On returning to Ireland most of the inheritance was gone and he was
forced into a career. He graduated Trinity and was called to the Bar in 1791, he became a Master
in Chancery and MP for Kilbeggan. He married Hannah and then secondly Elizabeth Nixon born
circa 1770 the eldest daughter of Rev Brinsley Nixon of Painstown, Co Meath.
His obituary stated that he was considered to be the best nisi prius lawyer of his time. He was a
strenuous and vehement opponent of the Act of Union and a close friend of Henry Grattan. His
portrait painted by Martin Cregan in 1835 was left to his daughter Augusta in his Will.

1 Francis Goold eldest son born circa 1805. Francis High Sheriff of Limerick in 1848,
drowned while out boating on 31.08.1848 with his nephew Robert Gore-Booth.
2 Emily Mary Goold born circa 1806 married Rev John George Wynne nephew of
Owen Wynne of Hazelwood on 19.01.1831 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin.
3 Rev Frederick Falkiner Goold 2nd son born circa May 1808 was Archdeacon of Raphoe
and Rector of Raymochy, Donegal married Caroline daughter of Charles Newcomen on
16.06.1830.
4 Caroline Susan Goold 2nd daughter born circa 1809 married Robert Gore-Booth of
Lissadell, Sligo on 02.04.1830 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin. Caroline died 16.01.1855 at
21 Merrion Square.
1 Robert Newcomen Gore-Booth eldest son born 07.04.1831 at Stephen’s Green
married Mary Egerton-Warburton daughter of Rowland Eyles Egerton-Warburton
of Arley Hall, Cheshire on 06.09.1860 at the residence of the bride’s father.
2 Caroline Susan Gore-Booth born 07.04.1832 at Merrion Square and died circa
November 1833 at Lissadell.
3 Emily Frances Graham Gore-Booth born circa 1835 married Captain Charles
Bradstreet Wynne of the 90th Light Infantry on 26.06.1860 at St Paul’s,
Knightsbridge.
4 Augusta Elizabeth Gore Booth born circa 1837.
5 Stella Frances Gore-Booth born circa 1840 married Owen Wynne son of John
Arthur Wynne of Hazelwood, Sligo on 01.11.1870 at Lisadell Church.
6 Henry William Gore-Booth 2nd son born circa 1843 married Georgina May Hill
only daughter of Colonel Charles Hill of Tickhill Castle on 29.04.1867 at Tickhill
Church, Yorkshire. Henry was an Arctic explorer and adventurer and became the
5th Baron Gore of Artarman and administered the Lisadell estate. Henry and
Georgina were the parents of Constance Georgine Markievicz.
5 Wyndham Goold youngest son born circa 1812, living at Westminster in 1851 died
unmarried in London on 27.11.1854 aged 40 years.
6 Augusta Charlotte Goold 3rd daughter born circa 1820 married Edwin Richard Wyndham,
Viscount Adare the eldest son of the Earl of Dunraven on 18.08.1836 at the house of the
Lady’s Father in Merrion Square. Augusta died in London on 30.11.1866.
