William Colbert of Gale View and New Park Athea. Mary died 25 Mar 1857 aged 45. Mary
died on 25 Mar 1857 and William died at Templeathea on 15 Apr 1886.

2 William Colbert baptised 1 Jul 1838 at Athea. He married Deborah O’Connell on
13 May 1871 at Lixnaw RC Church. Deborah was the youngest daughter of Thomas
O’Connell a farmer of Deerpark died aged 27 at Deerpark, Lixnaw, the residence of
her father, on 1 Jan 1873 two weeks after the birth of their son.

William secondly married Norah Danaher in 1895. William was an extensive farmer,
horse breeder and a JP. He died on 23 May 1909 at Newpark House, Templeathea.
Nora died 17 Apr 1930 aged 60. Both are buried at Templeathea graveyard.
2 William Joseph Colbert (twin) born 19 Nov 1896 at Templeathea. William was
a civil servant in London and died unmarried on 20 Nov 1968. He was buried
at Deansgrange.
3 Daniel Bertram Colbert (twin) born 19 Nov 1896 at Templeathea. Daniel
became a veterinary surgeon and died a bachelor as the result of a motor
cycle accident on 28 May 1927. He was buried at Templeathea graveyard.
4 John Patrick Colbert born 12 Feb 1898 Templeathea was educated at Rockwell
College and graduated UCC. He joined the staff of The Statist in London and
became editor in 1923. He married Helena, daughter of Hermann von Campe,
of Nachod, Czechoslovakia in 1927 and they had one son and two daughters.
He returned to Ireland in 1828 as the first chairman and managing director of
the Agricultural Credit Corporation. He gave lectures and wrote treatise on ‘The
economics of Hire Purchase’, Capitalism and Crises’, The Free State’s Monetary
System’. By 1932 the ACC had loaned over 1 million to over 9000 farmers. In
1932, JP proposed that the state should also be involved in the provision of
industrial credit. He was appointed the first chairman and managing director of
the Industrial Credit Corporation in 1933. He continued to write and produced
papers on currency including ‘The link to Sterling’ and ‘Commentary on
misconceptions regarding money and bank credit’. He retired from ICC in 1952,
and published ‘Irish banks and Irish general credit facilities’ in 1953. The family
lived at Maretimo from 1934 to 1936 and at Carysfort House on Grove Avenue
from 1959 to 1980. JP died 21 Sep 1975 at Carysfort House and was buried at
Deansgrange with his brother William.
5 Michael Brendan Colbert born 9 July 1899 at Temple Athea. During the Irish
War of Independence, he served on the brigade staff of West Limerick
Brigade. He was a Dáil Deputy for West Limerick, TD and senator. He died a
widower on 1 Apr 1959.
6 Timothy John Colbert born 29 May 1901 at Templeathea educated at Rockwell
and UCC. He was a dental surgeon and died in 1961 survived by his wife and
four children.
7 Patrick Aloysius Colbert born 11 May 1902 at Templeathea. He was a farmer
and married Catherine Scanlon in 1942. He died 16 Feb 1963.
8 Mary Ita Colbert (twin) born 22 Feb 1904 at Templeathea.
9 Garett Stanislaus Colbert (twin) born 22 Feb 1904 at Templeathea. He was a
farmer and died unmarried in 1966.
10 Ellen Ann Colbert born 28 July 1905 at Templeathea.
11 Maurice Bartholomew Colbert born 10 Aug 1906 at Templeathea died in 1907.
12 James Alphonsus Colbert born 20 Jun 1908 at Templeathea.
3 Michael W Colbert born circa 1844. He was living at Gale View, Athea and married
Nora Josephine McDermott on 26 Apr 1876 at Corraclare, Kilrush. Nora was the eldest
daughter of Cornelius McDermott of Clonreddan, Co Clare. They had fourteen children.
1 Cornelius Bernard (Con) Colbert second son born 19 Oct 1888, Irish rebel
shot by firing squad at Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin, on 8 May 1916 for his part
in the Easter Rising.
2 James Colbert, a Fianna Fáil TD for the Limerick constituency.
4 Margaret Teresa Colbert, eldest daughter married Martin Hogan 9 May 1874 at Athea RC
Church.
5 Maria Frances Colbert unmarried in 1886.
