Henry George Hubbard baptised on 8 Nov 1846 son of Isaac and Harriet Hubbard. His
father was a gardener at Westacre. He married Catherine Dooley on 29 Jun 1874 at
Clarecastle, Ennis. They were both working at Newhall House. Catherine was the
daughter of the late Hugh Dooley, a bootmaker. Henry got a job as steward at Thornhill
near Bray (now St Gerard’s School) with the Farrell family. The family lived at Thornhill
until circa 1893 when the house was put up for sale. Richard Farrell, bachelor of Thornhill
committed suicide in 1893 was cited in the much publicised divorce case of Arnold Felix
Graves and his wife Constance Louisa Weatherly. By 1901 the family were living in the
grounds of Newtownpark House and Henry was working for the Close family. By 1911
they were living at Synott Terrace, Kingstown having had six child all of whom had
survived. Henry died 26 Apr 1911 at Beulah in Glenageary late of 5 Synott Terrace,
Kingstown and he was buried at Deansgrange. His son Isaac made the funeral
arrangements. Catherine died at 5 Synott Terrace, Dun Laoghaire on 26 Aug 1936. Her
son in law T V Markey of 6 Temple Hill the informant. She was buried at Deansgrange
with her husband.
1 Isaac Lingley Hubbard born 3 Sep 1874 at Thornhill, Rathmichael. He was a
gardener working for Christopher Pallas at Mountainville House (later Knockrabo)
living on site in 1901. He married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Lyall in 1905 at Blackburn. He
was a gardener and had epilepsy. He died at the Richmond District Asylum on
28 Dec 1914 late of Synott Terrace and was buried at Deansgrange with his father.
2 Henry George Hubbard born 22 Jul 1877 at Thornhill, Rathmichael was a gardener.
He was in England by 1901 and was living at Rudding Park, Follifoot, Knaresborough
in Yorkshire. He married Catherine Agnes Timlin at Knaresborough in 1912. They
were living in Harrigate in 1939.

3 Mary Hubbard born 28 Sep 1879 at Thornhill, Rathmichael was staying with her
brother Isaac in Blackburn in 1911. Mary married John Stafford on 26 Jul 1917 at
Monkstown RC Church. John was a gardener living at Carroll’s Court, Blackrock
and the son of Thomas Stafford, a gardener. John, a retired gardener died on
10 Apr 1953 at 5 Synott Terrace and was buried at Deansgrange. Mary died at St
Columcille’s Hospital late of 6 Temple Hill Blackrock on 25 Sep 1964 and was buried
with her husband.
4 Augustus Patrick Hubbard born 17 Oct 1881 at Thornhill, Rathmichael. He
married Ellen (Nelly) Dew in 1905 at Camberwell. They were living at 63, East
Surrey Grove, Peckham in 1921 with their children Phyllis, Francis & George. He
was a railway checker in 1939 living at 63 East Surrey Grove, Peckham, Southwark
with their sons Henry and Francis.
5 Arthur Hubbard born 22 Jan 1884 at Thornhill, Rathmichael a gardener living with his
parents in 1901. He enlisted under the alias Thomas Lynch in The King's (Liverpool
Regiment) and attained the rank of Sergeant. He was killed in action on 27 Apr 1915
and is remembered at Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial in Belgium.
6 Catherine Harriett Hubbard born 22 Sep 1887 at Thornhill, Rathmichael. Catherine
was a National School Board teacher and married Thomas Valentine Markey on
18 Aug 1920 at Monkstown RC Church. Thomas was a clerk in Guinness’ living at 42
Francis Street and the son of Andrew Markey, a coachman and his wife Bridget
Dempsey. Thomas, a retired Guinness timekeeper died 14 Jan 1960 at 6 Temple
Hill, Blackrock and was buried at Deansgrange with his sister and father.
