George Dixon a Soapboiler of Erne Street son of Robert Dixon married Rebecca Yeates third daughter
of George Yeates an Optician of Grafton Street on 27 Jul 1854. He was later a lamp and oil importer
with warehouses at Upper Erne Street. The family lived at 30 Holles Street.
1 Robert Vickers Dixon born 17.10.1855 at 3 Heytesbury Terrace. Robert married Charlotte Julia
Jones of 43 Stephens Green daughter of the architect Alfred Jones on 11.07.1883 at St
Matthias’s Church. Alfred Jones designed the French Ambassador’s Residence on Ailesbury
Road. Robert died 25.09.1931 aged 76 years at 4 Wellington Road.

2 George Yeates Dixon 2nd son born circa 1857. George a Barrister was an Examiner of Title
with the Irish Land Commission. George married Mary Cecilia James only daughter of late
Rev Henry D James, Chaplain on the Bengal Presidency and Vicar of Hambleton, Oakham
on 30.07.1891 at All Saints, Babbacombe, Torquay. They lived on Elgin Road. George died
on 15.08.1920 aged 63 years at 67 Elgin Road.
3 Jane Dixon born 10.06.1859 died unmarried on 04.07.1935 aged 77 years at Milverton,
Temple Road.
4 James Dixon 3rd son born 04.03.1860 at 10 Burlington Road married Elinor Maud Carmichael
youngest daughter of Rev Canon Frederick Falkiner Carmichael Chancellor of Christ Church
Cathedral on 04.08.1891 at St Peter’s Church. Maud died on 24.10.1936 aged 76 years at
Bloomfield, Donnybrook. James died on 03.12.1943 aged 83 years at 10 Sallymount Avenue.
5 William Vickers Dixon born 21.12.1861 at 10 Burlington Road. William an accountant with
the Irish Educational Administration married Mary Waugh Burnet on 12.11.1891 at the
Episcopal Church, Moffat, Scotland. The Dixons lived at Lota on Cross Avenue. On a visit to
Scotland in 1922 they and 6 others died of accidental food poisoning at the Loch Maree Hotel,
Garlagh, Ross Shire. Mary died on 15.08.1922 aged 56 years and William died on 21.08.1922.
A public inquiry was held as this was the first recorded outbreak of botulism in England. It was
caused by potted duck meat produced by Lazenby & Co, famous for their Harvey's sauce and
later taken over by Cross & Blackwell. No blame was apportioned to anyone but a
recommendation was made that food in jars should be marked with an identification number
so that it could be traced.

24.07.1947 at Elpis, Lower Mount Street late of Somerset, Temple Road, Milltown.
7 Stephen Mitchell Dixon born 29.05.1866 at 12 Burlington Road. Stephen a professor of
engineering married Alilne Allison Harrison circa 1894. Stephen late of Le Petit Mas Chemin
de Bellet, Nice, France died on 26.03.1940 at Queen Victoria Hospital, Nice.

on 15.01.1936 aged 67 years at 42 Elgin Road.
