Roe Family of Mount Anneville Park, (Knockrabo) Dundrum
Peter Roe established a Distillery about 1757 on Thomas Street opposite the Guinness Brewery. In
1766 Richard Roe took over the business in Thomas Street and in 1784 Nicholas Roe opened a
separate distillery on Pimlico Street.
Whilst we haven't been able to prove the above given history of the Roe Distillery, we can say that
there were a number of Roe families in Dublin involved in the distilling business in Dublin, including
a Richard Roe who advertised his distillery in South Earl Street (leading to School Street) as for let in
1789 and a Robert Roe of Ringsend who distilled 'a cure for cancer' in the 1770's using Terra
Ponderosa Muriata. The stores called Bell view, adjoining Mr Roe's Windmill was operated by L
Doyle in 1805 and sold brandy, rum and genever (a type of gin). A Mr Roe had a distillery in Crane
Street (off Thomas Street) in 1810, and School Street (junction of Crane Street and Bellview) is the
address given for Mr Roe's distillery in 1817.

He defrayed the cost of finishing the building of Christ Church Taney (building of Chancel)
and also donated the chancel, organ and a stained glass window to the Church. By 1883
the good times were over, and Mount Anville Parkon which he had spent over 30K on
was up for sale and his plant collection was sold. The following year the furniture was
sold and the interest on the lease of the house was purchased by Christopher Pallas,
