William Christopher St George French, eldest son of Lieut Col John French and Anne Storey
of Baggot Street. He joined the 6th Dragoon guards and attained the rank of Colonel. He
married Dorothea Helen Harris eldest daughter of Michael Harris of Eden, Rathfarnham
and Merrion Street in January 1819. They lived at Fitzwilliam-square and Clooniquin, Co
Roscommon.

2 Mary Anne French born circa 1823 married John Richardson on 23 Oct 1851 at St Peters,
Dublin. John was a barrister and the eldest son of Rev John Richardson of Summerhill,
Fermanagh.

4 Christopher St George French born circa 1824 at Clooniquin married Susan Emily Percy at
St Peter’s Church, Dublin on 12 Feb 1851. Christopher died 8 May 1897 at 5 Raglan Road
and Susan died 29 Dec 1914 aged 86 years at 3 Wellington Road.

2 Arthur John St George French born 24 Feb 1853. He married Pauline Anna Haddock,
daughter of Reverend Edward I Haddock, on 27 Jan 1898 and they lived at Lichfield,
Staffordshire. Pauline died in
3 William Percy French, second son born 1 May 1854 at Clooniquin House, Co
Roscommon, graduated Trinity with a degree in civil engineering in 1881 and worked
for the Board of Works as an inspector of drains. He was a journalist, song writer, poet,
actor and artist. He married Ethel Kathleen Armytage-Moore of Arnmore, Cavan on
28 Jun 1890 at St Stephen’s Church, Dublin. Ethel was the second daughter of William
Armytage-Moore. Ethel died on 29 Jun 1891 aged 20 at St John’s Road, Sandymount.
1 Ethel Florence Cecilia, infant daughter died 6 Jul 1891.
William secondly married Helen May Cunningham Sheldon of Burmingham House, near
Shipston-on-Stour on 24 Jan 1894 at Burmington Parish Church. Helen was the eldest
daughter of Jonathan Sheldon. Percy died on 24 Jan 1920 and was buried at the
churchyard of St Luke’s Parish Church, Formby.

4 Emily Lucy French born 7 Aug 1859 at Clooniquin House, Roscommon was educated
privately at home. She moved to London, trained as a nurse at Bethnal Green Hospital
and moved to China in 1888 where she met Dr Charles Calthrop De Burgh Daly who was
a medical officer to the HM Consulate. She married Charles at Ningpo, China circa
1890. They moved to Newchwang in 1893 and Charles was awarded the Order of the
Double Dragon giving him the rank of Mandarin in 1896. They returned to Dublin in
June 1912 and lived at 71 Park Avenue, Sandymount. Emily died on 13 Nov 1835 at
Priory Lodge, Stillorgan and Charles died at Raford, Knocksinna Road Stillorgan in 1947.
He left over 20K in personal estate.
5 Alice Kathleen French born 8 Jun 1857 at Clooniquin married Alfred MacDonald Bulteel
Irwin of the Bengal Civil Service at Elphin Cathedral on 30 July 1884. Two of their children
were staying with their grandmother Susan in 1901.
6 Dorothea French born 6 Nov 1855 born Co Roscommon living with her mother in 1911.
7 Henry Percy French born 6 Sep 1863. He married Henrietta Scott on 16 July 1904 and
died in Liverpool on 3 Apr 1939 and was buried at Mount Jerome.
8 Christina Laura Sophie French born 24 Sep 1869 in Derby, England living with her mother
in 1911 died 16 Mar 1935 at Kingstown.
9 Christopher St George French youngest born 13 Apr 1872 died at St Joseph’s Hospital,
Victoria on 24 Jun 1940.
5 Dorothea Emma Jane (Dora) French born circa 1826 married William Montgomerie
Stewart Caulfeild on 8 Jun 1847 at St Peter’s Church Dublin. William a lieutenant in the
RN was resident at Fermoy and son of Captain James Caulfeild, RN. They lived at
Monkstown and had at least five children.
6 William French born 1 Feb 1829 at Clooniquin joined the Royal navy and attained the
rank of Major General. He married Fredrica Laura Marescaux on 5 May 1863 at St Omer.
Fredrica was the second daughter of Adolphe Marescaux. William died in October 1909
at Compiegne.
7 St George French born 10 Apr 1831 at Clooniquin Roscommon. He graduated Trinity College
and took Holy orders. He was ordained deacon in 1855 and priest in 1856. He was curate of
Delgany from 1856 to 1871. He was appointed Incumbent of Kilbride Church, Bray, by the
trustees in 1872. He became a Canon of Christ Church and vicar of Stillorgan the same year.
Rev St George French married Anne Stuart Ring Roe on 20 May 1856 at St Peter’s Dublin.
Anne was the daughter of Henry Roe of Fitzwilliam Square. He was the uncle of Percy
French, poet and artist. They lived at 4 Ulster Terrace from 1873 to 1874 and at 1 Park Villas
from 1875 to 1877. In November 1878, he announced to the congregation his intention to
resign as he was unable to accept the revised prayer book and the Equivocation Clause for
the office of baptism was unsatisfactory. He put his house up for sale and moved to
England in December that year. He took up the curacy of Holy Trinity in Tunbridge Wells. He
was involved in the Church of England Temperance Society and the Young Men’s Christian
Association. He was offered the living at Kenley and moved to Croyden in 1885. He became
involved in the Kenley Horticultural & Cottage Gardener’s Association. St George and his
wife were seriously ill by March 1888 and returned to Dublin. Anne died on 9 Nov 1888 at
75 Grosvenor Road and St George passed away on 10 Apr 1889 at Leinster Road. St George
left nearly 6K in personal estate.
