Alexander Barrington Orr born circa 1773 married Matilda Thwaites. Matilda was the daughter
of Augustine Thwaites and Elizabeth Smith. Alexander was a sugar and provisions merchant
with premises at Smithfield and Marlboro Street. Alexander died 14.12.1834 at Brooklawn,
Mount Merrion Avenue aged 61 years and was buried at Stillorgan parish graveyard. Matilda
died on 01.02.1848 at Garville Avenue, Rathgar. One of their sons was Alexander Smith Orr.

Alexander Smith Orr, born 29.01.1815 son of Alexander Barrington Orr. He was educated at Trinity,
obtained a premium in science in 1833 and graduated BA in 1835. He was called to the bar in 1841
and moved to Osnaburgh Terrace, St Pancras, London. He returned to Dublin by 1843 and practiced
as a barrister with offices at 20 Herbert Place and in 1845 was at 23 Herbert Place. He married Mary
Perrin eldest daughter of Rev Mark Perrin, Rector of Athenry on 16.10.1845 at St Peter's Church, Dublin.
Alexander and Mary were supporters of The Sunday School Society of Ireland. From 1851 to 1858 they
lived at Rosanna, Roundtown (now known as Terenure). By 1868 they were living at Brooklawn and
Alexander was still listed as a practicing barrister. He was a shareholder in Messrs Thwaites and in 1880
he registered and was granted a patent on a 'new or improved aerated drink' (soda water). Mary was
the author of a number of books including Leah: A Tale of Ancient Palestine in 1869 and The flower of
the Ticino published in 1872. Alexander was a member of the Dublin Philosophical Society. Mary died
at Greenwood, Avoca Avenue on 05.08.1881 aged 64 and was buried at Mt Jerome. Alexander died at
Greenwood on 07.05.1887 and was buried with his wife at Mt Jerome.

Curate of Newlands, Worcestershire married Elizabeth Anne Pollexfen 2nd daughter of Wm
Pollexfen of Merville, Sligo on 13.08.1874 at St John’s Church, Sligo. Alexander was an author
and poet. He wrote under the Nom de Plume 'Barrington MacGregor' and published 'King
Longbeard' in 1898. The couple had seven children only one of whom returned to Ireland.
Alexander died 27 Mar 1910 at East Grinstead and Elizabeth Anne died 5 May 1933 at Sea Road,
Bexhill.
2 Matilda Geraldine Orr born circa 1847 in County Dublin married Richard Chaytor Millar son of
Adam Millar of Queen’s Park, Monkstown on 05.08.1873 at the Parish Church, Booterstown.
Richard entered into partnership with William John Symes in 1874 and they lived at Gracefield
from 1874 to 1876. He was architect to the Bank of Ireland and they lived at Brooklawn
between 1882 and 1904. Richard an architect died on 23.03.1915 aged 70 years at 33
Marlboro Road and Matilda died on 01.01.1920 aged 76 years at 27 Pembroke Park.
1 Adam Gerald Chayton Millar born 14.04.1874 at Gracefield, Waltham Terrace was an
architect and took over his father's practice in 1915.

1 Lionel Frank Hastings Orr born 14.02.1910 of Lisnacrieve, Stillorgan Park joined
the RAF. He married Sheelagh Birmingham at SS Philip & James Booterstown on
22 April 1930. He died in a plane crash on 10 Aug 1936 and was buried at
Deansgrange. He left behind a widow and one daughter. Sheelagh remarried in
1937.
Lionel secondly married Nannie Marcia Murphy at SS Philip & James on 25 Sep 1930.
He was the managing director of A & R Thwaites & Co and later chairman. He died
14 Dec 1956 at Carrigart, Grove Avenue and was buried with his first wife and son at
Deansgrange. Nannie died 16 Mar 1967 and was buried with her husband.

in 1921 patented a pump for dispensing beer. In 1923 he patented a destination
indicator for buses and trams and in 1924 patented a spring loaded gate for use on
stud farms/cattle ranches. He died 6 Feb 1962 in LA.
9 Geraldine Violet Orr born 05.02.1884 at 1 Herbert Terrace died of TB on 01.03.1912
aged 28 years at Amana, Stillorgan and was buried at Deansgrange.
Mark secondly married Mary Louisa Rachel Dick daughter of William Dick of 7 Albert Villas,
Morehampton Road on 30.04.1900 at St Mary’s Church, Donnybrook. Mark was an inventor and
the owner of numerous patents including one for a bottle stopper. He worked at A & R Thwaites
and had been left shares in the company by his father. In 1891 he sold his shares in Thwaites
and set up another mineral company with Pierce Hovenden. This company was amalgamated
into a new company called The Mineral Waters Distributors Ltd, along with Thwaites and Cantrell
& Cochrane in 1927. Mark died 22.09.1927 aged 77 years at 2 Ulster Terrace, Blackrock and was
buried at Deansgrange. Mary Louisa died on 08.04.1960 aged 88 years at Wynkyn, Delgany.

6 Catherine Sydney Orr, youngest daughter born circa 1855 married James Samuel Gordon
McCullagh son of James McCullagh and Helena Gordon on 03.01.1885 at Booterstown Parish
Church. James died on 24.10.1892 aged 42 years at 214 Devonshire Road, Forest Hill Kent.
Catherine was living in Dalkey in 1901 and by 1911 was in Killiskey, Wicklow. Catherine died on
07.02.1936 aged 81 years at the Adelaide Hospital late of St John’s, Newtown Park. Informant:
Adam Gerald Chaytor Millar of Glenthorn, Temple Gardens, son of Matilda Geraldine Orr and
Richard Chaytor Millar and nephew of Catherine. Catherine is buried with her parents at
Mount Jerome.

Moyers on 20.06.1883 at the Parish Church, Monkstown. Fingal late of 25 Longford Terrace

Constance died on 19.10.1945 aged 83 years at the Rectory, Dundrum late of Wilfield Road,
Ballsbridge and was buried with her husband in Deansgrange.

he enlisted on the outbreak of WW1 and received a commission in the Royal Irish Rifles.
He was KIA 25 Sep 1915 and is remembered on his parent's headstone at Deansgrange.

Richard Chaytor Millar and nephew of Catherine. Catherine is buried with her parents at
Mount Jerome.
7 Fingal Harman Orr born circa 1857 married Constance Emelia Moyers daughter of George
Moyers on 20.06.1883 at the Parish Church, Monkstown. Fingal late of 25 Longford Terrace
died on 01.04.1905 aged 48 years at Portobello House and was buried at Deansgrange.
Constance died on 19.10.1945 aged 83 years at the Rectory, Dundrum late of Wilfield Road,
Ballsbridge and was buried with her husband in Deansgrange.

2 Alexander Harman Orr born 07.08.1885 at 8 Glenart Avenue, Blackrock had a rubber
planting business in the Federal Malay States.
3 Ada May Orr born 26.12.1886 at 6 Knapton Terrace.
4 Adrian William Fielder Orr 31.10.1888 at 6 Knapton Terrace.
5 Walter Leslie Orr born 06.04.1890 at 6 Knapton Terrace was educated at Avoca School
and Trinity College. He joined his brother Alexander in Malay. On his return to Ireland
he enlisted on the outbreak of WW1 and received a commission in the Royal Irish Rifles.
He was KIA 25 Sep 1915 and is remembered on his parent's headstone at Deansgrange.

8 Cecil Orr born circa 1858 youngest son married Theresa Rachel Parr eldest daughter of
William Parr of Bank House, Newtownards on 16.04.1890 at the Parish Church, Newtownards.

2 Eleanor Catherine Cecil Orr born 08.09.1892 at Racefield Lodge, Kingstown.
