Tighe Family of Parsons Green
William Tighe only son of Richard Tighe, Member of Parliament for Augher married Rt Hon Mary Bligh
eldest daughter of John Bligh 1st Earl of Darnley. William was the keeper of records in Birmingham’s
Tower. He purchased property at Rosanna, Ashford, Wicklow where he built a house.
He secondly married Margaret Theaker daughter and co-heiress of Thomas Theaker and widow of John
Moyle.

1 William Tighe eldest son born circa 1738 MP for Athboy married Sarah Fownes daughter of
Sir William Fownes of Woodstock on 23.05.1765. In 1778 Sarah inherited the Woodstock
estate. William died in 1782 aged 44 years at Rosanna and Sarah died in 1822.
1 William Tighe eldest son born 05.05.1766 of Woodstock married Marianne daughter
of Daniel Grahan MP of Crolquil, Tipperary in 1793. William died 18.03.1816 at his
house in St James’s Place and Marianne died 11.06.1853 aged 78 years at Tunbridge
Wells.
1 William Frederick F Tighe born 1794 married Lady Louisa Lennox. He
inherited the Woodstock estate in Kilkenny and died 11.06.1878.
2 Daniel Bunbury Tighe born 1796 married the Hon Frances Crofton. He
inherited the Rossana estate and died in 1874.
2 Henry Tighe a Barrister and MP for Inistioge married Mary Blachford a cousin. Mary
died of TB on 24.03.1810 aged 38 years at Woodstock and Henry died 1836.
3 John Edward Tighe.
4 Elizabeth Tighe born circa 1774 married Rev Thomas Kelly of Kellyville, Queen’s
County son of Judge Kelly in July 1795. Thomas died 14.05.1855 and Elizabeth died
22.06.1857 both at Pembroke Place.
5 Marianne Caroline born circa 1771 married Charles Hamilton. Charles died 1857
and Caroline died 1861.
2 Edward Tighe 2nd son born circa 1740 educated at Eton College and St John’s College
Cambridge and was admitted to the Middle Temple in 1759. Edward was recorder of
Wicklow borough 1769-1801 and a commissioner of accounts 1771–1795. Edward married
Anne Jones from Westmeath. They lived in Donnybrook before moving to Parson's Green
in 1785. Anne died in 1792. Edward was appointed customer of Dungarvan on 04.03.1801
but died later that year. Edward was the uncle of Mary Blachford.
1 George William Tighe born circa 1776. George spent most of his life in Italy. George
died 01.03.1837 in Pisa and he is buried in the Old English Cemetery, Livorno together
with Margaret Jane Mountcashel née King. A copy of his Will is held in the National
Archive, Kew.
3 Theodosia Tighe born circa 1744 married Rev William Blachford whose mother was Elinor
Acton of Kilmacurragh on 05.06.1770 at Staplestown, Carlow. William was Rector of Saggart in
1770 and Howth in 1771 and then became librarian of Marsh’s Library. William died and was
buried on 23.05.1773 at St Werburgh’s Church. Theodosia died on 08.11.1817 in Dublin.
1 John Blachford born circa 1771 educated at Eton BA 1792 of Altadore House in
Newtownmountkennedy. John married Mary Anne Grattan eldest daughter of Henry
Grattan of Tinnehinch on 04.02.1814 at Powerscourt Church. John died at Altadore
and was buried on 20.06.1817 aged 45 years in Delgany.
2 Mary Blachford born 09.10.1772 was tutored at Este’s Academy in London. A known
beauty Mary was known as a Romantic era woman poet. She became involved with
her handsome cousin Henry Tighe who was besotted with her. Henry was the 2nd
son of William Tighe and Sarah Fownes. They married on 05.10.1793 and went to
live in London. They had no children and the marriage appeared loveless. They
returned to Ireland from time to time to visit family. Mary wrote a personal
adaptation of Cupid and Psyche which was privately published in 1805. The 50
copies were all inscribed to friends. Mary died of TB on 24.03.1810 aged 38 years
at Woodstock.
4 Richard William Tighe 3rd son born circa 1746 succeeded his father as MP for Wicklow in 1768.
Richard married Sarah Richards daughter of Goddard Richards of Grange, Wexford circa
October 1783. Richard died 1828 and is buried at Donnybrook. Sarah died in 1838.
5 Mary Tighe born and died in 1748.
Mary died in 1748 and William married Margaret Theaker in 1750.
6 Rev Thomas Tighe born circa 1751 at Rosanna. Thomas was the Vicar of Drumgooland and
Drumballyroney, Down and married Elizabeth Beers daughter of Wm Beers of Ballygoran circa
December 1786. Thomas died in 1821.
7 Barbara Tighe 1753 married Rev Michael Sandys on 22.07.1776 at St Ann’s Church, Dublin.
They were married by the Rev Thomas Tighe. Michael died in January 1814 and is buried at St
Ann’s Churchyard. Barbara died 12.05.1820 aged 67 years and is buried at Powerscourt.
1 Margaret Sandys born circa 1770 married Rev Henry Ormsby in 1804 at Powerscourt.
Margaret died on 10.05.1861 at 29 Harcourt Street, Dublin. Probate to Rev Edwin Sandys
Ormsby.
Henry Fox died at Parsons Green in 1787. Henry was House Stewart and principal domestic for Edward
Tighe.
