Brien Molloy born circa 1776 was with 50th Regiment and served under Sir Ralph
Abercromby in Egypt. He married Marianne Dennis in April 1804. Marianne was
the daughter of John Dennis of Abbey Street. They Lived at Millicent Co Kildare and
had a town house at 12 Belvidere Place Dublin. It came into conflict with Daniel
O’Connell in 1829 when he tried to defend the reputation of the Earl of Mayo. He was
appointed a JP for Co Dublin and Co Kildare. Brien died 11 Jul 1851 at 37 Belvidere
Place.
1 Matilda Molloy, eldest daughter born circa 1806 married O’Bryen
Bellingham on 8 Dec 1827, at St George’s Church, Dublin, the ceremony was
later performed according to the rights of the Roman Catholic Church at
Mellicent House. Bryen was brother to Sir Alan Edward Bellingham of Castle
Bellingham.
2 John Edward Denis Molloy eldest son born circa 1809. He married Marie
Louisa Hodgens at the Pro Cathedral on 1 Mar 1831. Maria was the youngest
daughter of Thomas Hodgens and Anne (Jane) Eskildsen. John Edward Denis
Molloy was appointed a JP in 1838. He was living Villa Flora Monkstown in
1860, Kill o' the Grange in 1865/6, By 1869 they were living at Thornhill,
Stillorgan and moved to Ashfield House in 1875. John died a lunatic on
10 Jun 1894 at the House of Saint of God, Stillorgan late of Ashfield House,
Booterstown. He left 3K in personal estate, probate to his daughter Anne
Eleanor Coyne of Ashfield, Booterstown.
1 Bryan John Molloy only son born circa 1834 displayed some strange
behaviour as a young man. In 1869 he appeared at Kingstown Court to
prosecute James Nolan for assault. He had employed Nolan to steal
deeds from his father John Molloy and then reneged on the
arrangement and was assaulted by him. The case was dismissed. He
was resident at Nassau Street married Jane Murray on 27 Dec 1860 at
Dublin’s registrar’s Office (at 60 Dame Street). Jane was the daughter
of the late Michael Murray and tradesman and Jane was resident at 20
South Cumberland Street. She was a servant in the house of his father
at Kill ‘o the Grange and he met her in 1859. They went to Bangor on
their honeymoon and on their return, they got lodgings in Britain Street,
but Bryan returned to his parent’s house to live. He deserted her in
1864. Jane was allowed £26 per year by Bryan’s mother. In 1868 she
met him by chance and asked him to come lived with her, but he told
her that he had married again. Jane took Bryan to court in 1871 and he
was ordered to return to live with his wife. was still alive in 1894 and
living in Dublin.

2 Bryan Molloy born 1 Dec 1864 North Dublin Union workhouse.
He was a school teacher and married Christina Reilly on
23 Nov 1886 at St Agatha’s. Christina was the daughter of William
Reilly and was resident at 4 Franfort Cottage. They were living in
Clontarf by 1894. In 1911 they were living at Great Georges Street
and Bryan was a building contractor and they had ten children of
whom eight had survived.
As Bryan John Molloy of 36 Grand Parade Street, Cork he secondly married
Margaret Barrett 29 Oct 1864 at St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Cork.
Margaret was a 22 year old servant living at Tivoli Gardens and the
daughter of John Barrett, a tradesman. They had at least four children.

4 John Patrick Molloy born 20 Jul 1866 at Limerick.
5 Mary Eliza Florence Molloy born 31 May 1868 at Pembroke Road, Dublin.
6 Frederick Edmund Denis Molloy born 18 May 1870 at East Hill Cork,
As Bryan Molloy of Dublin, he married Mary Elizabeth Clancy on 28 Oct 1881 at
St Francis Xavier Parish after a marriage on 16 Aug 1881 at Brownlow Hill
registry office in Liverpool. Mary was from Wicklow and the daughter of Peter
Clancy. They lived at Cobden Street, Liverpool and later at Earl Street,
Regent's Park, London. She was living at 2 Herbert Street in 1894.

As Bryan Denis Molloy, he fifthly married Robertina Elizabeth Denes Green on
11 Mar 1884 at Dublin Registrar’s Office (at 6 Synott Place). Bryan claimed he
was a widower and gave his address at the Gresham Hotel, Sackville Street,
Parish of St Thomas. Robertina was the daughter of Robert Green, solicitor
and was resident at Gardiner Street. They stayed at the London and North
Western Hotel on North Wall on the night before their wedding but were
asked to leave on the 12th after Robertina wandered around the hotel in her
nightwear with her hair down and threatened to kill a chambermaid.
Robertina stated that she had met Bryan’s parents and they had given
permission for the marriage so that the money would stay in the family. The
case never went to trial and the fourth wife was not identified. During the
hearings Bryan admitted to have been in four asylums, two in Bruges and
one run by Dr Eustace in Dublin.* Robertina was adamant that he had never
been married before, that all the other women were harpies and liars and
that it was all a conspiracy to split them up and that as soon as they were
married they were carried off to an Asylum. Bryan admitted guilt, his doctor
stated he was insane and intimated that it ran in the family and he was sent
to Richmond lunatic Asylum. He was visited there by his son in 1885 and 1886.
By 1892 he was released and he visited his son in Clontarf.
Brian Molloy sixthly married Emma Jane Ray Moreton in St Albans, Holborn in
1889 and when she found out his was married in 1893 while they were living
Bruges, she reported it to Scotland Yard. Bryan was arrested in Paris where
he was living with another woman and charged on remand at Bow Street
Court in 1894. He pleaded guilty, was convicted and sentenced to a year of
hard labour and served his time at Pentonville Prison. It was also mentioned
at the trial that he’d served 5 years for assault. In 1895 Jane, accompanied
by Bryan applied for a divorce and it was granted and she was allowed £8 per
month alimony. Robertina died a spinster at an asylum in Mullingar on
22 Dec 1915 having suffered from senile decay from 1896.
2 Annie Eleanor Molloy only daughter born circa 1842 married Charles
Michael Coyne of Kiltane Abbey, Mayo the second son of Edmond Coyne
of Farm Hill, Roscommon on 5 Jul 1860.
3 Bryan Arthur Molloy second son born 2 Aug 1810 was educated at
Clongowe’s College and married Catherine Walsh in September 1840. He
was called to the bar in 1841. He was an advocate of Irish Nationality and
a member of the National Repeal Association. They were living at Tivoli
Road, Kingstown in the 1870’s. Bryan died at 3 Ardnagreine on 26 May 1874
and was buried at Glasnevin. Catherine Anne died 11 Nov 1883 aged 69 at
Grosvenor Road, Rathmines and was buried at Glasnevin.

2 Mary Caroline Henrietta Molloy eldest daughter born 10 Jan 1843
married Robert Byrne on 4 Jul 1861 at St Peter’s Church,
Phibsborough. Robert was the eldest son of James Byrne on Winton
House, Cabra.
3 Son Molloy born 12 Jun 1844 at Dublin.
4 Robert Arthur Molloy born circa 1845 died 7 Jul 1867 at Athy.
5 Kate Molloy second daughter married Thaddeus O’Callaghan on
14 Jan 1874 at Monkstown Church. Thaddeus O’Callaghan was the
eldest son of Thaddeus O’Callaghan of Fitzwilliam Square. Kate, a
widow secondly married Thomas Joseph Wall in 1880.
6 Marcella Molloy third daughter married W Percival Reynolds at SS Mary
& Peters, Rathmines on 13 Jun 1876, W Percival was manager of
Hibernian Bank in Tubbercurry, Co Sligo.
7 Brian Vincent Molloy youngest son born circa 1857 died 17 Jun 1877
at 2 Mount Pleasant Square and was buried at Glasnevin.
4 Edward Molloy third son joined the 55 Regiment. He died 1 Jun 1860 in
Dublin.
5 Charles Molloy fourth son married Mary Anne Reading at St Martins in the
Fields on 6 Aug 1844. Mary Anne was the daughter of Richard Reading of
Salisbury Street, Strand.
6 Anna Maria Molloy married Thomas Brady on 13 Nov 1839. Thomas was an
MD of Lower Gardiner Street and a professor in the King and Queen’s College
of Physicians.
1 Maryanne Matilda Brady married Edward Thomas O’Brien on
4 Aug 1863 at Warrenpoint, Co Down. Edward was the eldest son
of Edward O’Brien of Mounjoy Square, barrister. Maryanne was the
niece of Sir Francis Brady, Chief Justice of Newfoundland.
7 Caroline Matilda Molloy, fourth daughter married Robert Green on 1 Feb 1842.
Robert was solicitor of Blessington Street.
1 Robertina Green second daughter born circa 1850 married her first
cousin once removed Bryan Dennis Molloy on 11 Mar 1884 at Dublin’s
Registrar’s Office. Robertina died a spinster at an asylum in Mullingar on
22 Dec 1915 having suffered from senile decay from 1896.
8 William Molloy was admitted a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in
October 1838.
1 Henrietta Maria Molloy, eldest daughter married John Marcus Costello
on 1 Jan 1862 at the Metropolitan Church, Marlborough Street.
