Linde family of Drummartin House
Christopher Linde a Dublin confectioner married Catherine Foster, a Catholic of
Glasnevin on 20 Feb 1762. He ran the business from premises at Capel Street and
Blind Quay (Exchange Street). He died in June 1777 and Mrs Lydia Walsh and Mrs
Elizabeth Alcock who both worked with Christopher took over the business until the
children were of age. Christopher had taken out life insurance with the Charter
Party of the Free Annuity Company of the City of Dublin and although Catherine was
paid £30 annuity pa, this claim brought about a resolution by the company that no
further papist wives be paid an annuity and that the annuity would go to the children
if they were Protestant. Lydia was executor of Christopher's Will and Elizabeth Alcock
was her sister.
1 Christopher Linde took over the business but died in 1783 and the business passed
to his brother Eyre.
2 Eyre Linde took over the business and married Mary Farange, the daughter of John
Farange on 1 Dec 1784. George Jones ex apprentice and employee set up in
competition at Dame Street but Eyre weathered the storm and joined forces
becoming Walsh & Jones of 86 Grafton Street. Eyre built Eyrefield House and Eyrefield
Lodge at Kildare which were both destroyed during the 1798 rebellion. Eyre died
20 Feb 1815 at Portland place.
1 Hannah Linde, only daughter married John Henry Smith of County Roscommon
at Clontarf Church on 10 July 1822.
2 John Hill Linde baptised 2 Jul 1793 at Mary’s Church married Charlotte Maria
Jebb, daughter of Sir Henry Jebb at Monkstown in April 1823 and they lived at
Drummartin House between 1839 and 1846. John was an attorney and was
insolvent by 1853. Charlotte died on 4 Jun 1856 at Summer Hill, Dublin.
1 Mary Sophia Linde, eldest daughter born circa 1824 married Richard
Thomas Bourne, son of Walter Bourne at Taney on 24 Feb 1846.
2 Henry Linde baptised 25 May 1825 died before 1861.
3 John Henry Linde, eldest son died at Eyrefield Lodge on 11 Dec 1835.
4 Charlotte Emily Linde born Dominic Street, baptised at St Mary’s on
20 Jan 1830.
5 Frederick Matthew Linde baptised 20 Jan 1830 died an infant at 12 Upper
Dominic Street on 9 May 1830.
6 Adelaide Louisa Jebb Linde born circa 1832 married Herbert Panmuer
Ribton only son of George Ribton, MD at St Georges on 13 Jul 1857.
Herbert was an engineer and developed a number of patents. He was
murdered at Alexandria on 11 Jun 1882 during a riot against foreigners.
Adelaide died 7 Dec 1906 aged 74 years and was buried at Mount Jerome.
1 Mary Anne Ribton born circa 1857 died 13 Feb 1862.
2 Georgina Mary Ida Bianca (Ada) Ribton was born at Kingstown on
25 Jul 1865. She married Frederick Walsingham Meredith in
Aberystwyth, Wales in 1889.
3 Ida Fanny Ribton born circa 1861 died 9 Jun 1863.
7 Henry Eyre Linde born 20 Nov 1835 at Enfield Lodge joined the Irish
Constabulary resigning in 1856. He married Elizabeth Yelverton daughter
of Thomas Yelverton on 7 Dec 1861 at St Georges and moved to Eyrefield.
Henry bred horses wining the stag hunter plate in 1873 at Fairyhouse with
Highland Mary and winning the Grand National in both 1880 and 1881.
Elizabeth died 18 Dec 1883. No issue found.
Henry secondly married Frances Burnett, daughter of the Rev James Burnett
on 28 Nov 1887 at St Anne’s Dublin. He died 18 Mar 1897 at Kildare leaving
46K in personal estate. He was a famous trainer of steeplechasers and won
many races in Ireland and abroad and after his death the stud farm was
sold to Major Eustace Loder.
8 Frances Kathleen (Fanny) Linde, second daughter married Richard Griffith of
the 2nd Madras Native Infantry at St Thomas’ on 2 Apr 1856.
9 Frederick R Linde born September 1837 at Eyrefield immigrated to Canada where
he married Harriet Dodge in 1867.

2 Frank Bourne Linde born New Brunswick, Canada circa 1871, physician
married Florence Falkiner at South Dublin Registry office. They moved to
Newcastle and in 1901 he was surgeon aboard the RMS Boma to Africa and
in 1906 travelled to Australia. The family moved back to Ireland and
Florence died a widow in 8 May 1940 at Delgany aged 80.
However it appears that Frank may have married a second time in Boston to
an Alice Newton nee Ashman in 1913.
1 Henry Eyre Linde born 30 Jan 1894 at Ballyboden joined the Royal
Inniskilling Fusiliers and died of wounds on 24 Jun 1917 and was buried
La Laiterie Military Cemetery, Belgium.
2 Ida Emily Linde born Brookfield Tce, Donnybrook married William Paton
Sherriff at Christchurch Delgany on 6 Feb 1940.
3 Charlotte Jebb Linde born 14 Jan 1898 at Highfield, Dublin married Major
Robert Goodman Kerr on 2 Dec 1914 at Christchurch, Delgany.
3 Thomas Bourne Linde.
10 William Edward Linde born 1 Sep 1839 at Drummartin House died 30 May 1858 aged
19 years.
11 Florence Reeves Linde born 3 Jan 1843 at Drummartin married Abraham Colles,
youngest son of the late Richard Colles at St Georges on 30 Oct 1860.
John Hill Linde secondly married Jane Phelan, relict of the late William Purefoy Lumm of
Lumville, Kings County at St George’s Church on 11 Sep 1863. John died 25 Nov 1875 at
Eyrefield the home of his son and Great Connell.
